What are the best cold email outreach hacks?

Hi guys,

I want to scale my cold email outreach efforts. I've seen a drop in deliverability and did a few tests with mates where I've found that the emails hit the spam folders which is not ideal.

Are there any awesome articles/resources or tips anyone can share to help?

Want to scale to 100 cold emails per day.

Any help or advice would be great!

Dan, that's a great goal. Good luck on the sales path.

Regarding your emails hitting spam when sending to your buddies... what system are you using now? If it's an automated system, did you setup your DNS and verification correctly?

Delivering a personalized and targeted message to the right person from your own account (like @louisswiss said), instead of an automated tool, should help a ton with deliverability. (FWIW – we made a cold outreach tool to solve this process for ourselves: https://arrows.to/outreach)

      Hey Daniel (great name!)

      Arrows looks like a cool tool, thanks for sharing! Well there are two systems I'm currently using;

      • Apollo.io (amazing)
      • Contactout.io (to get emails) and then plug into mailshake - I clean the list as well beforehand

So no I haven't set up a DNS, which is great advice and a fail from me haha.

Does arrow solve all the above?? :)

Yeah definitely check your DNS settings if Apollo and Mailshake are sending from your domain on your behalf. The receiving servers will be checking that the sending email server has permission to send from your domain. Also, their tracking pixels might be causing issues too (See links below).

        Apollo: https://support.apollo.io/hc/en-us/articles/360009535331-Why-and-How-To-Set-Up-A-Custom-Tracking-Subdomain-URL-
        Mailshake: https://docs.mailshake.com/article/138-how-do-i-customize-link-tracking

Arrows would solve the above, because you'd be sending emails directly from your email account. But it's not nearly as automated as those tools (on purpose!). The philosophy of Arrows is that it's worth taking the time to send targeted, very personalized emails to a smaller list of people. So Arrows makes that process super easy so you can focus on just writing the emails (instead of jumping between a bunch of browser tabs and apps to copy+paste things).

[email protected] if you need help with these things!

          Hey Daniel,

Fantastic answer and sorry for the delayed reply on my end!

Yeah I'm now keen to try arrow - you've sold me :)

Best to sign up via the site?

            Yep! Website is best.

Hi - I scaled to around 200 emails a day using a plain gmail ID (@gmail.com) for my site https://womenhustlers.com

The hack I used was simple. The first email you send needs to build inquisitiveness.

Instead of directly pitching your service or product, give it a slight break.

    Ask a question first.

Be courteous, and ask something like 'Mind if I ask you a question...' Mostly people do not refuse if asked politely. Then is when you make your move and that too gently.

For me, this has reaped dividends. When I used to cold outreach people initially with my entire pitch, I mostly got refused(if I persisted), and then slowly I noticed my email landed into spam.

I changed my tactic and moved to this one, and boy there are some good results!

In addition to this, I agree what @louisswiss said in another comment here - you need to know what and who your target is. Then is when you will be able to tune your message as suggested above

Hope this brings you results. Happy to connect for any advice related to this.

      Hi Pristiha,

Nice one + great result. I like the question approach. Someone also told me a cheeky little trick is purposely doing a typo and then doing an automated follow up 5 mins later saying "whoops meant to say 'XYZl'", which I thought would be quite clever and feel approachable haha.

Thanks for sharing and love the women hustlers site + idea! That's awesome. Some great businesses on there :)

Thanks :) do share results as you go on..

Ok, so here's the best cold email outreach hack...

Stop caring about how many cold emails you send.

Instead, think about the end result and work backwards.

What are you trying to achieve with your cold emails? Who are you trying to reach and what action do you want them to take?

How can you get more of those people to take that action? What objections do you need to overcome?

More cold emails is almost never the answer. Better, more valuable, more targeted cold emails usually are though.

      Hi Louis,

Yep great point. To confirm volume isn't the main driver but more something to aim for. I know there are a few boxes to tick before I have the chance to worry about volume.

"More cold emails is almost never the answer. Better, more valuable, more targeted cold emails usually are though." - Noted and will action ;)

Hey @dansiepen great question. What is your business?

I would be more than happy to connect and help here. We scaled our cold email successfully to 10k-15k / month. Although it is getting harder and harder to reach that inbox.

Without knowing much here are a few things:
    *Check your domain spam scores
*Remove all links and images in emails
    *How personalized are the emails?

      Hey Tyler,

      Oh we definitely need to chat then and also all great questions. Answering your questions;

      *Check your domain spam scores

--> how do you do this?

*Remove all links and images in emails

--> yeah good point I have 2 - drop to 1? Take all links out of email signature? Signature is simple.

      *How personalized are the emails?

      --> They're pretty personalised

What's your email if you don't mind sharing? Can I send you what I send? :)

      Dan
