What I Learned While Building a Generative AI PoC for Business Use

Over the past few months, I’ve been exploring how founders can validate generative AI ideas without jumping into a full-scale build.

One thing I’ve noticed: most AI projects fail at the PoC stage — not because the tech doesn’t work, but because the business goal isn’t clearly defined.

Here’s the simple framework that made the biggest difference for us:

  • Start with a measurable business outcome (not “let’s use AI”).

  • Narrow the use case aggressively.

  • Use existing APIs before building custom models.

  • Validate outputs with real users early.

  • Define success criteria before writing code.

This approach saved time and prevented over-engineering.

I wrote a deeper breakdown of the framework here for anyone interested:

Curious — how are you validating AI ideas before committing serious budget?
