Instagram head Adam Mosserri recommends posting carousels to boost your engagement. Here's why.
If you’ve been having a hard time cracking the Instagram algorithm, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has some advice.
Mosseri just shared a tip with his 2.7 million followers on Instagram that carousels outperform single photo posts in terms of their reach. Especially carousels with music.
Carousels are those posts that can include up to 20 different frames, and it’s this feature that makes them so powerful. As Mosseri says:
Multiple pieces of media are going to mean more interactions with your carousel posts, and more interactions is going to mean more reach on average.
If someone sees your carousel post but they don’t swipe, Instagram will often often give that carousel a second chance and automatically move to that second piece of media for the viewer.
Carousels with music are eligible to appear in the Reels tab, which provides another channel for engagement. A channel that Meta really wants to push.
However, although carousels are great, they are still only the second most engaging Instagram post type, as their average engagement rate of 0.99% can’t compete with the 1.23% that Reels is sporting.
Which is why Mosseri suggests throwing music onto your carousels.
Ultimately, as indie hackers continue to question the value of building in public on X, it makes sense to branch out to different platforms.
So, if you’re going to try out Instagram, consider spinning up some carousels with music.
Always had an inkling, this confirmation is wonderful because we're about to launch a campaign!
Good luck with it!
This is going to be useful for many people. Thank you for sharing this information.
No prob!
great insight and helpful
Great insights! Adam Mosseri’s tips on using carousels really highlight their potential for boosting engagement. It’s interesting how Instagram's algorithm seems to favor multiple media formats, allowing for more interactions. Adding music to carousels is a smart move, especially since it opens up opportunities for visibility in the Reels tab.
As indie hackers explore new avenues, leveraging Instagram’s features like carousels could definitely enhance their reach and engagement. It’s all about adapting to what works best on each platform! Have you tried creating carousels yourself?
Good to know carousels with music will appear in the reels tab. I wonder if they're pushed the same as videos though 🧐 if so, that means I don't need to make anymore videos! 😆
I just took a look at my feed and reels tab, but I didn't see many carousels with music 😕
Its a useful information for all instagram users. Thanks for providing this.
Great insight from Mosseri! It’s interesting to see how carousels, especially with music, not only boost reach but also have a second chance at engagement. Perfect strategy to increase visibility while tapping into Instagram’s push for Reels!
