Stories like this are not helpful on indie hackers. Indies hackers is for small scrappy
developers and independents who are trying to make a go of it in this world without raising outside money.

The companies you mentioned are all from very well connected people, who
have raised vulture capital money from the biggest funds in existence.

Please don't talk of billions of dollars on here while most of us are just trying to carve out a living. It's not helpful, it's not helpful at all for those of us in the actual living struggle of pulling ourselves up by the bootstraps with no laces.

I refuse to raise money from the vulture capitalists for my SaaS, fabform.io -- for me
fabform.io will always remain small. Fabform has been a labor of love, or unfortunately, on most days just a love of labor.

    Rant over!

Totally agree! Btw, fab form looks fabulous! Are your Twitter DM’s off?

      1. 1

Yes my twitter DM's were off by accident. Good catch. I switched them on now !

I think there is some issue. Happened with me as well and someone else pointed out - I was sure that my DM was open for everyone.

Great post. Didn't know about most of these. I suppose most companies want to keep their history prior to their pivot quiet because people view pivots as the original idea being a failure, but I wouldn't say that's the case at all. We can learn a lot about the early history of companies that pivoted and then went on to be a massive success.

    Very useful! thank you!

It's interesting how some of these ended up being something completely different to what the founders built at the beginning. Goes to show that pivots can pay off and you don't always know where your audience/value lies. Great write-up.
