Why I’m building Fileo which automatically organizes your cloud documents 🗂️

Hey Indie Hackers,
I’ve wasted way too many hours dealing with files like Scan00134.pdf or Invoice_3892013.pdf. They come from everywhere — email, downloads, scans — and I often don’t even bother sorting them right away. Later, when I need them, I spend forever searching in a messy Google Drive.

I’ve had this idea in the back of my mind for a while, but only recently the timing felt right. About three months ago, I quit my job as a CTO and finally gave myself the space to work on something of my own. That’s when I had the aha moment: instead of keeping this as a “someday project,” I should just build it now.

So here I am, building Fileo.
👉 Fileo uses AI to automatically recognize, rename, and file your digital documents directly into your existing Google Drive (Dropbox and OneDrive coming soon). No new system to learn, no extra effort — just tidy cloud storage.

I’m at the very beginning, but excited to share my journey here. If you’ve ever struggled with document chaos, I’d love to hear your story!

Nice insight. It's wild how a few words can change everything.
The “first 100 members” line adds urgency and makes it feel real.
Did you try other versions that focused more on the value instead of discounts?

    1. 1

yes, indeed. I am not completely suprised, but more like happy that it comes out as hoped.

No, I haven't tried any other wording yet. There's for sure more room to improve and experiment.

I did something similar for my last project , Hugo + Cloudflare + AI prompts. It was ridiculously fast to launch, but I ended up moving to Webflow later because my cofounder wanted to tweak copy/design directly. I think the tradeoff is speed upfront vs. flexibility for collaborators later.

    1. 1

yeah, totally agree. Webflow is definitely an option to consider when you're growing.

thank you for sharing this valuable information

    1. 1

you're more than welcome. Would you use it? Do you feel the pain as well?

The Scan00134.pdf problem is so real! I deal with this constantly - downloads folder becomes a black hole where documents go to die.

Curious about the AI recognition accuracy - how well does it handle messy scanned documents or screenshots of receipts? Those are usually the hardest ones to categorize properly.

Also, do you plan to let users customize the folder structure, or does Fileo create its own organization system?"

    1. 1

Great to hear you're on the same page!

Yes, the accuracy will be key. I know that it can get difficult. That's something which I still can't confidently answer. But I think good OCR is key. And as a fallback I try it with AI vision.

Yes, I'm also planning to let users customize the folder structure. Not quite sure yet which options to provide. But in the first place it will use the existing structure anyway, so you can define it to your liking. AI can make suggestions on top of it if a document doesn't fit.

Pretty neat idea! I've dropped you a follow on X. Looking forward to tagging along in your journey :)

Thank you! Good to hear the idea is not something only I like.

Just checked Betterlytics … when did you start it? I just implemented Plausible two days ago. What sets Betterlytics apart? Should I switch? 🤓

BTW: would love to see you on the waitlist if you think it's something you could use.

      1. 2

Would love to sign up for the waitlist and try out your tool as it becomes available! As a matter of fact, done! We have a bunch of legal-drafted documents that could use some arrangement, so looking forward to seeing it's capabilities. Do you know when you expect your privacy policy & terms of service to be drafted? 🙂

And awesome! Thanks for checking us out. We started about 9 months ago, we're a small fast-moving team of 5 guys and 2 external contributors that we picked up along the way. So development happens at a fast pace!

And yes, you should definitely switch 😇 We have a free plan, so no worries once your Plausible trial ends. In addition, we have a bunch of more advanced features with deeper insights, such as core web vitals, funnels, user journey mapping and more!

        1. 2

Cool! Privacy policy will be added in the next days, I know this is a crucial part. May I ask where you created your legal docs? Is it custom or did you use any generator or tool? I'm thinking of using iubenda as I used it before in other projects.
Terms will be in place as soon as registration is open.

Hehe, okay … I would only lose data of 3 days 🙈 Or is there an option to import them? (Probably I can't even export them).
Also what I found neat is that in Plausible I could connect to Google Search Console to get insights on the search terms. That's not available, right? (don't know who important it will be for me).

          1. 2

Our legal documents are all drafted by our legal advisor - I'm unsure how she handles the exact drafting, I'd expect her to utilize templates. I can reach out to her and ask if you'd like. Nonetheless, a large portion of our files are internal documentation detailing how we ensure privacy in our implementations, these are written by us and largely reviewed with ChatGPT. We haven’t used AI for legal drafting yet, but we might adopt it for document auditing in the future!

Regarding your questions: importing data from Plausible or connecting to Google Search Console isn’t available yet, unfortunately. That said, you’ll find a bunch of other useful features that Plausible doesn’t offer (and even more to come in our upcoming release this weekend). You could try Betterlytics alongside Plausible and see how it fits for your workflow! 😎

Also, feel free to reach out if you’d like to partner up in some way, we’d be happy to mention your site with a backlink and a shoutout in our future blog posts when you've launched properly!

This resonates. I’m working on Kaelis (AI that gives back 2–3h/day) and the pain of scattered docs is real.

How did you decide this was the right moment to start?

    1. 1

it's quite simple: I just have the time. And the idea just sparked at the right time.

Hi Valentin. Sound like a really exciting project, and a brilliant idea indeed.
Have you thought about how to efficiently manage customer inquiries scalring with your compan growth?

    1. 1

Thank you! Would you actually use it?

Well yes, definitely need some customer support tool. I used Crisp before and that's probably what I will go for. But I'm sure you want to suggest another tool to me? :)

      1. 1

Hi Valentin, thanks for your reply.

I actually joined Fileo's waiting list, to see if I can test the tool. In the past I went throigh some nightmare situations, as HD recovery tools not preserving any single filename, so yes I would like to give a try.

I surely can talk you about how BlinkBrain can help managing customer inquiries, but I am as much interested in your experience handling this problem. How do you typically used to handle customer request before implementing Crisp? Did Crisp build you a Help Center by itself, or did you have to write the knowledge articles by yourself? What parts of Crisp do you find more valuable?

        Thanks again.
