With the rollout of new EU sustainability mandates (like CSRD and ESRS), something interesting is happening. Even if a small-to-mid-sized SaaS or FinTech startup is legally exempt from compliance due to their headcount, their enterprise clients are not.

As a result, corporate procurement teams are quietly freezing software vendor contracts if the startup cannot instantly provide their Scope 3 greenhouse gas data and ESG metrics. Missing data is becoming a major deal-killer.
