Our First Commit: The Start of ChartDB and Going Open Source

On August 5th, 2024, we made our first commit to what would become ChartDB. This commit was more than just the start of a codebase - it was the moment we decided to take a bold step and build something that could benefit the entire developer community.

Guy and I had been talking about creating a tool that would make database visualization easy and accessible. But this commit marked the turning point where we decided to go all in, not only building it but making it open-source from the start. We believed that the power of collaboration and transparency would make ChartDB stronger, faster.

Opening it up to the community allowed us to get feedback early, iterate quickly, and shape the product based on real-world needs. It’s been an exciting journey from that first commit to where we are now, and it all started with the decision to share our work openly with the world.
