How I came to New Pricing / Packages

Since I switched from Free to Freemium Model about two months ago, I had some things to think about and posted it on getmakerlog.com to the community:

----------
The question in my mind...
Since about two months, I have the Freemium model for Job Postings in place. Or you post for free or for 39 USD and get featured, more skill tags and logo, etc...
I get posts, but always free.

Now there are a bunch of possible reasons for this.
The ones I see:

  • Value for the paid package is not good enough
  • The free package has all that they need
  • Difference between the 2 packages is not clear so they don't see the value
  • Price is too high
  • Price is to low

I'm thinking of doing a test and remove the free option, but make the free one eg 29 and the paid with featuring etc 49...
Can not loos much anyway. any thoughts?

Quickly I got valuable feedback, and I got to decide, to stop with free job postings, introduce a new basic package, make a bit better pro package and add an enterprise package, which is kind of subscription with the included amount of job postings and access to (they) job admin.

In my business, which is resume & LinkedIn Profiles reviews and complete rewrites/edits, giving away reviews for free in order to convert leads was a complete bust (run my company in Shanghai, so leads were 60% Chinese, 40% non-mainlanders which includes global inquiries). I delivered value in the reviews but people went away thinking they could then DIY (do-it-yourself) the fixes.
They couldn't since they don't edit these documents every day, week, month. But few converted too. Except for the huge companies with a lot of capital to burn, giving away something for free signals poor value to many consumers I have found. I set affordable yet fair prices for the entry level products and also upped my full service fees, still under competitors. Much better inquiries and serious clients who want to get the job done, not save 5-20% on something so important to them. My 2 renminbi.
