Left my job as a doctor to be a full-time IHer
by Lewis PotterAfter working on my side project for almost 9 years, I've decided to take a year out of my career as a doctor to focus full time on Geeky Medics. I finished my last shift on Paediatrics last night, which was a really strange /liberating feeling!
The final push I needed was my partner receiving a job offer in Melbourne (we're currently in the UK). So the plan is to pay myself a regular salary for the first time and find a nice co-working space to work from (to minimise loneliness etc).
We fly tomorrow and my plan is to spend a year giving Geeky Medics my full focus to see how things go. I'm a little anxious, but also super excited to start this new chapter.

Oh hey! Amazingly, I’m a doctor in Melbourne as well. It’s highly unusual to see other doctors on a community such as Indie Hackers, let alone another in Melbourne. I’ve even used Geeky Medics whilst a med student. Would you be interested in catching up whilst you’re down here? Could give you a “handover” about the local scene, from both a hacker/medical perspective.

I love the UI.
Just wanted to give you a heads up on 2 things I noticed:
1- When scrolling from the bottom of the site to the top, the nav bar doesn't smoothly transition in size but kind of hops in 2 steps back to the full size.
2- The "Get it on Google Play" badge is noticeably larger than the "Download on the App Store" badge.
This is on a firefox browserSite looks great! Congrats and good luck :)

The "download the app" modal overlaps the "email subscription" modal overlaps the "chatbox" modal overlaps the "cookie consent" modal.
The first three are directly on top of each other in the bottom right corner.-

After visiting your site, I think you'd have more luck pushing folks over to the app if you made the CTA a little more engaging than just "app". Perhaps "Improve your clinical skills" or even "Download our app" would make it a little more actionable.-

Thanks! That’s some really useful feedback. I’ll work on the CTA once I arrive in Australia. Any increase in conversion would be great as the majority of the revenue is generated from the iOS and Android app.

how did you make the decision to stop pursuing a career as a doctor and focus on the startup instead ?

My partner got offered a job out in Melbourne, so it felt like a good time to commit to the business (as the revenue was finally at a point it could support me). I’ve been part time for 2 years, so it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I might go back to part-time doctors training in a year, it just depends how things go. I’m interested to see if I miss the clinical role.
