Replaced Hashtags with Groups

The hashtags on the homepage are officially gone, and I've replaced them with an inaugural set of groups:

Still lots of work to go here and many very basic features left to build, but hopefully the groups will build up steam over time.

If you have any additional group ideas, I remain open to suggestions! We'll definitely be adding more groups in the coming weeks.

    I'd love to see a group for IHers working on courses!

    I know we have a few pretty active ones...

    @harlem
    @me
    @janelleallen
    @alexhillman
    @alchemist

    and others I'm forgetting right now

      Love this idea (being a course author myself)

      Good idea. I've got a few on Skillshare since 2014 and a book - would love to join a group on IH to bounce off ideas!

    3. 2

      That’s a great idea, I‘m working on a course too and I would love to be part of it!

      Want to be the moderator for it? You wouldn't have any real moderator powers at the moment, but eventually you would. 🤗

      1. 1

        Sure! 😍

        (although if @janelleallen wants to do it, she'd be a much better choice)

    I'd love to see a group for hiring and job posting. I wouldn't mind being the moderator

    Mini bug: When I subscribe to a group, then unsubscribe and try to join...No animation/feedback happens.
    Overall Great work!

      Thanks for the report, will fix!

        You welcome! 🕊️

    I'm gonna miss the hashtags for sure. I used them a lot during the 30 days of growth to find my previous posts and was planning on doing the same for some updates of what I've learned from 30x500.

      You can still use them. Not sure if @csallen plans to get rid of that functionality, it just won't be used to gather people over a specific theme.

      I like using them too :)

        Oh, okay. Thanks. I'll probably do that in a couple of days then and write another update.

    Very nice!

    Maybe a Resources group where we can discuss pros and cons of tools etc out there for founders and other IH'ers?

  6. 1

    A group for moderators!

  7. 1

    Excellent Feature/Pivot! Now IndieHacker is really gonna blow up! :)

    ps: @csallen What do you think about having simple online presence dots(With the ability to turn it off) on people's profiles, to know who is currently online?

    • It might help create a great sense of community 👌

      Will probably do this when I finally start implementing direct messaging/chat of some kind.

  8. 1

    Nice job! Especially nice work back-porting all the #'s to group posts so that their already full!

    @csallen I'd love if we could create groups for specific meetups like IndieBeers? It's a useful way of making it easier for attendees to contact each other afterwards without creating a new channel e.g. a Slack.
