💡Idea Found!

After a few weeks of daily lurking on IH, I've been inspired by the community to start my own side project as well!

I've got a few ideas in the pipe, but I decided to start with one that addresses a simple, specific problem that I myself have experienced many times. The potential solution is also something that is simple and easy to prototype and test out 😏

So what is this simple, specific problem?

The internet is full of awesome articles, blog posts, etc that we read and want to share with our colleagues, so what happens?

1. a link is pasted into the relevant Slack channel (hopefully in a post directly, but sometimes stuck in a thread 😱)
2. a few brief words are written to describe the theme or subject of the link (if you're feeling extra nice), and
3. boom it's shared!

But what happens next?

Maybe a few of your colleagues will get the notification, read the headline and click on the link to read the article, but most of your colleagues will just ignore it and even those who do read it, more or less forget about it soon after. In any case, this link will be all but impossible to re-find in a few days, and the interesting and potentially helpful information contained in it will be lost, never summarized or saved anywhere, until inevitably someone else finds the link and shares it again a few months or years later.

This frustrated me, and I actually started to create my own Notion table to manually try to save and store all of the links from one channel in Slack. I was seeing links fly by that I would have really loved to take a look at, but just didn't have the time at that exact moment to check out. The problem with this - the fact that it's not automatic means that it's hard for others to get in the habit of doing it...result : me doing it for everyone then giving up a few days later.

So that's where the idea for LinkSavr came from!

Why not create a simple tool that helps teams save and organize each link that is shared on Slack, so that they are all properly tagged and easily retrievable in a link library stored in Notion? Bonus benefit : it enforces the good habit of summarizing and pulling out the key takeaways, a great skill to help your teammates spend time only on what is relevant or interesting to them.
