2 million pageviews in one week

After almost giving up on this project, a friend suddenly gave me a great idea for how to get more people to know about the site, and that push set the ball rolling, eventually resulting in more than 2M pageviews from almost half a million visitors in just a few days.

I wrote how it happened in more detail here: https://mixedname.com/blog/crazy_launch

That's amazing, but the problem with that is : traffic fades away fast and you are back at "zero". organic search is your best bet, but the problem is competition as baby/names have quite insane competition from huge corporations.

Other than that, congrats and thanks for sharing

How much did you earn from that 2 million visitors? Did you have ads etc.?

I think just like you do then, as organic is my focus. However getting a lot of visitors helps with that, because then you stand a much better chance of having people who have blogs, are active on forums etc. also mentioning you.

And I did gain many organic backlinks from the exposure, although not as many as I would have imagined. I've gotten many more from much lower exposure before, so I guess it depends on the site.

And to maximize this I didn't have any ads enabled at the time, as I figured having them would make it less likely for people to link back. Not sure if that is true or not. I've experimented a bit, and it seems I'm only reaching like less than $.5 per 1000 page views, so looks like I said no to ~$1000.

Although having ads might have completely tanked the site on Reddit, so that traffic might not even have materialized had I had them.
