We were aware that over 80-85% of clothing that are donated to charities in Australia do not end up resold, creating a issue of disposal and costing charities in some cases millions of Dollars to dump them. A bulk of these clothes end up in landfill, where these fashion items remain pollutants for decades.
Arguably worse yet, is that some of these borderline (in some cases are) no longer wearable items end up getting shipped to countries such as Ghana or other countries where the clothes were made in the first place. Not only does this cost us all unnecessary carbon emissions, the clothes actually create many other social, commercial and environmental problems in the destination countries.
We won't spoil the doco for you, but if you are curious about what problems can a seemingly unharmful act of 'giving' can create, you can check out the program on ABC iview for free. We need to ask the question: where do my items actually end up.
