The story of how this came to be

I was given unrestricted internet access for the first time in my life during covid, and as any kid would I used all of it to scrounge every corner of the internet. One of them was a website called talk.chat.

I'd been to other chat sites, but this one was different from the start. It made me feel seen and acknowledged. Ironically, a part of it is due to bad design and unintuitive rules, which you only find out about if you ask other people or stick around long enough. It's simple enough to be able to be used straight out of the box though which takes off a lot of inertia.

The other thing about Talk was its community. It had a lot of active users, some had been there for a while and knew each other v well, covid contributed to that too ig. But in no time I found myself among one of them, I made hundreds of friends from all over the world, exchanging music, playing games, watching movies with them and what not.

Life happened and I moved to college, but Talk stayed, I didn't visit it as much, and the active user community changed but you could still spot the same people around. if you didn't feel like yourself, you could pick up a new username and lose yourself in the sea of texts, it was oddly liberating.

It wasn't all rainbows and roses though, there were always good people and bad people, one of whom conducted regular spam attacks and broke the site often, to the point it became unusable and eventually got taken down somewhere around 2024, by the original owner i suppose. All that lives now is a ghost in the form of a shell page.

So I decided to rebuild it, better and hopefully revive the community and give the internet back a corner where you can chill for a while before you go about your battles.
