May was just a lucky month where a single user brought in maximum one-time revenue.
Honestly even I am amazed at how perfectly the product fits for his use case, plus thankfully he has been kind enough to not haggle.
So far it's been a really interesting side project apart from my training workshops...
If I am being completely honest I think it was mostly luck! And I not even how long this can continue!
But now that I have a basic audience I can continue to building a list and coming up with more relevant SaaS ideas for them...
I wasn't entirely sure if moving from excel macro (my area of expertise) to chrome extension was the right choice!
Luckily I didn't have to wait too long to find out...
Within 2 days I got a referral customer who wanted ~9 licenses...
I wasn't even sure this is a product!
I wasn't sure how I would make the product or licensing would work!
And there's this guy asking for 9 licenses...
If there is a cloud 9 moment for entrepreneurs, this was it for me!
In just a matter of a week number of people using that excel macro had gone from 7 to 29 but for every person who wanted to "try it out" I had to spend ~3 hours in back-and-forth communication to set it up properly for them.
Because I had no idea how to market it to the right people or filter out irrelevant people who weren't the right fit for it.
It meant I was spending almost half a working day per user on set up and 40% of the time these were irrelevant users...
I needed a way where people can set it up and try it out themselves without me literally pasting in their messages for them.
A friend suggested creating a browser extension, hence the idea for WASender plugin 2.0 was born!
I made a list of close friends who were also trainers in different niches!
Didn't have to sell them very hard on the idea of switching to WhatsApp for sending zoom workshop reminders.
I made copies of my macro and helped them set it up for their reminders.
And within 2 days 5 out of the 7 people I had set it up for were willing to pay for it and also wanted some improvements!
I had no idea what the pricing should be so I got them to commit for three months at $10 a month
One small change increased the attendance rate for my paid workshop from 9% to 65%.
And the idea for a micro - SaaS was born!
My first ever online workshop gets mentioned in an influencer's tweet
153 people pay & book, but only 14 people show up.
On calling them after the workshop I realize most of them didn't check the reminder email
So for the next workshop, I created an excel macro to send the reminders on WhatsApp instead
Out of 63 people who had booked! 41 showed up!
No change in the reminder message content or schedule. Just a switch from email reminders to WhatsApp and a jump from 9% to 65% attendance for the webinar!
That's how the idea for WASender Plugin for WhatsApp Web was born!
