Where is this place
Find where any photo was taken in seconds with AI power
Hey Indie Hackers 👋
I built [Where is this place](https://whereisthisplace.net) for moments when you see a photo online and think: “Where was this actually taken?”
Sometimes you have GPS coordinates in EXIF data. Often you don’t.
The tool tries to combine:
- Visual clues (skylines, architecture, signs, terrain)
- Any available EXIF / metadata (timestamps, GPS, camera info)
- AI models trained on landmarks and environments
You upload an image, and it suggests candidate locations plus context you can use to investigate further.
It’s not meant to be a magic oracle, but a starting point for:
- Curious travelers
- Content creators who need accurate location info
- OSINT and research workflows
### I’d love feedback on
- What would make this genuinely useful for your own investigations or travel planning?
- Any concerns around privacy or ethical use you think I should handle better?
- Integrations you’d like to see (export formats, map providers, etc.)?
