We run an AI product studio and in May we decided to productize our stack with an AI Boilerplate and that is how the idea of BuilderKit came into being
Basics
We compared all the boilerplates and realized that we needed a highly informative and professional-looking landing page so we created one. We also realized that documentation was the key for a boilerplate to succeed, which took us the maximum amount of time. We were ready with a feature-rich boilerplate, a great landing page and elaborate documentation.
Product Differentiation
We were already late in the Boilerplate wave and we differentiated by adding Pre-Built apps to the boilerplate in addition to ensuring that we had all the features available on other SaaS Boilerplates. Users could just fork one of 15 pre-built apps, customize and deploy them within minutes - this was one of the biggest plays that worked for us.
GTM & Marketing
- Pre-Orders on Twitter - We started with Pre-Orders on Twitter, partnered with a few dev specific newsletters run by friends and took the early time to compile/stitch together BuilderKit
- Launch on Twitter - We then launched on Twitter with a demo video
- Backlinks - We added BuilderKit to 100+ directories and listing sites, helping us improve our DR to 21 in 3 months (Ahrefs)
- Launch on FB LTD Groups - We launched BuilderKit on a couple of FB LTD Groups and we got in some sales from that as well.
- Product Hunt Launch - We actually worked for the PH launch and secured #3 position on a weekday with 600+ upvotes without taking help from any paid consultants. The launch went pretty well both in terms of traffic as well as revenue. We also got picked up by a bunch of newsletters such as Ben's Bites etc.
- LTD Deals Marketplace Launch - Last month, we partnered with an LTD SaaS Deals platform and launched BuilderKit on RH. We were told that the product might not pick up owing to it being developer specific and non-refundable, but we still gave it a shot. The outcome hasn't been as great and we will close the deal with 70 odd sales.
- Others - We received some traffic from plugging builderkit in one of our medium blogs as well
Stats
Traffic - 10K Users
Revenue - $15K
June - $3147 (Pre-Orders, Twitter Launch,
July - $5527 (PH Launch Month)
August - $5261 (RocketHub Sales Month)
September - $865
B2B AI Agency Business
We also work on projects for clients and we added a custom AI app option in the pricing page. We got 15 odd leads of which one has converted.
Next Steps
- Blogs - Our SEO Research is complete and we are working on Blogs that solve common pain points for building AI Wrappers
- Video Tutorials - We are working on Video Tutorials which we will put out on Youtube
- Free AI Builder Resources and Repositories - We are also working on free resources that we will use as a lead magnet to drive sales for Builderkit.
- Ads - We think that due to the nature of the product and its pricing, we might see a good ROAS on Ads as well.
I hope this helps you get an idea of various channels for launching a similar product. Do let me know if you have ideas on how can we grow BuilderKit further.
