I wanted to share some learnings I've had with taking my paid newsletter from $0 to $4,000.
I started this free newsletter about 3 and 1/2 months ago.
Every week I share an email marketing guide. I've grown the base of the newsletter to ~2,700 subscribers.
62% of my free subscribers have come from Twitter. 80% of that is completely organic. 20% of that is retargeting my followers with reminders to subscribe.
The remaining buckets (in-order of acquisition) are my personal Facebook, personal LinkedIn, personal Instagram, and I just started a referral program.
I've probably spent ~$300 or so on retargeting ads.
I spent the first two and a half months of this newsletter just giving away value. No selling, no ads, no promotions. 100% focused on adding value.
I started having dozens of people each week telling me that they'd pay for this content.
I wanted to maintain integrity and wanted to keep that newsletter free, but once I hit 50 people saying they'd pay for content, I rolled out a second newsletter.
In the first month (which is wrapping up this week), I converted 82 people at $49 per month to join the paid newsletter.
I promote the paid newsletter in a section in my weekly free email. I also started testing dedicated sends. I did a dedicated send earlier this week and had 10-15 people join on top of the 82 previous paid subscribers, so now am actually closer to ~100 signups and ~$5,000 MRR.
I'll continue to share learnings but to summarize:
Happy Friday!
