Hi everyone! My team and I just launched Startup Bibles: a curation of internal processes shared by the top startups. From their remote policies to their branding guidelines. Tell us what you think and submit new companies :)

I love this content, and the interface is clean and effective. Really valuable contribution.

But for me the name doesn't match up with the offer. These aren't startups. Tech companies yes, but not startups.

Thanks for the feedback and very good point about startups but the audience is startups starting to put together their internal processes :)

That's a good idea (I'm not just saying that because I had the same idea not too long ago 😀).

Here's the way I see it:

    • As companies get more remote, there is a growing need to document things in general. That can be SOPs, policies, documentation, etc.

    • There's going to be general purpose solutions for that. The most well placed right now is probably Notion.

    • As Notion gets more popular, some companies are going to try to unbundle it to offer repositories for particular types of documents. Company policies, values, processes, etc. Each of them have their little specifics that might require stand alone products, if they want to have great UX.

    • I'm not sure competing with Notion head on is going to be a good strategy. I personally would go for a more niche requirement (e.g. only cover employee handbooks).

Thanks David :) actually we're the Slite (https://slite.com) team behind this project - our tool is a competitor of Notion's - so this is all great and valuable feedback for the team. Check out Slite if you don't know it already, would love to hear what you think!

Oh, cool. It's definitely a space with huge growth potential. How do you see yourself compared to Notion?

Interesting idea. Here are the thoughts that come to my mind:

    • Somewhat tangential, but to me, a startup is only a startup when it is small enough to not have to have internal processes. The examples you have on your website - Amazon, Netflix, Stripe - I would definitely call them "big tech companies", not "startups". Part of this is just a pet peeve of mine, but part of it is that it could be genuinely confusing to your users; they may be looking for the types of internal processes that work better for an eg. 25-50 person company.
    • How would this be monetized? I see the target audience as other startups looking to get ideas for themselves, rather than people looking to learn, because internal processes isn't something most people are motivated to learn about. So would they pay to get access? I think they'd have to, because it'd be hard to get enough eyeballs to monetize with ads. So at this stage I think it'd be important to spend time talking to existing startups and see if this is something they're willing to pay for. I'm not sure whether or not they would, I could see it going either way.
    • This seems like the kind of thing where marketing and brand will be very important. Imagine that you have a startup and you are coming up with internal processes. I don't know how things work, but I don't imagine that people do research and google around for things like this, I imagine that they get together, have a meeting, and come up with something. So I think that to get users, you'll need to establish a strong brand awareness. "Oh, maybe we should check out Startup Bibles. Some of my friends used them when they were at this stage and said it was helpful."

thanks for all these valuable thoughts, really appreciate it!

      • definitely agree on the wording startup being misused, i'll review this with my team
      • this isn't meant to be monetized as it is a side project/content that we made with my team. we're building Slite (https://slite.com)!
      • yes definitely branding is meant to be big! we want to create more categories and continue being a hub for all this type of content :) stay tuned!!
