I need some advice on marketing my product the right way.

I need some advice on marketing my product the right way.

I've build https://terrajobs.de/ a jobboard for the german GIS / Geo industry. I've put up some useful blog posts and also managed to get some backlinks from universities and from some sites where my competitors are linked, too (all by cold emailing).

My problem right now is that the content creation path will lead me nowhere in the near future and there is not enough search volume to use this properly. I don't quite know how to further market the platform to attract the right audience.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You probably would like to answer these questions to yourselves to know figure out where you can find your users.

    • What is the pain point that you are trying to solve?
    • Who has that pain point?
    • Where do they try to find a solution to their pain point other than google search?

And, this would need to be answered for both sides - job posters and job seekers.

If you can articulate some answers to these questions (even in the form of hypothesis for now), you would know what needs to be done.

    PM if you need help.

What is unique about your board? What is the thing you do that your competitors can’t or won’t do?

Competing on content with established players is not usually a winning strategy.

Knowing what you are doing differently will others provide you more direction.

Have you worked on SEO? I imagine job board sites can count on lots of traffic from organic search if they are able to compete.

Yes thats true and I‘m pretty decent in SEO I think. So on that front I‘m ok. I just can‘t keep up with the content creation all by myself. And also search volumes are not that high for those keywords.

How are you doing content creation at the moment?

Yes, thats definately true. Only trough this I really learned that the only thing that counts is an audience or a clear market strategy before coding. My bad.

The job posting side is pretty much covered by me already. I‘m also thinking about launching a Newsletter maybe so that this will be a lot of value upfront to build an audience in the long run.

I am also looking to start up a job board in the next month. I've found that being a professional working in the area that I am going to build the job board for has helped open doors. Is LinkedIn/Xing a way for you to market your website? Get in touch with professionals to see if they want to join & take a similar approach with those hiring also. I can see that SEO has been mentioned which is always a solid starting point. Good luck! Keep us updated.
