I made a simple beautiful straightforward journaling app - memoiri

After a heart-breaking breakup, I reflected on the past and realized that if I had actively reflected on everyday, I would have noticed subtle problems building up. That's why I created memoiri, a diary app that helps you focus on what matters most: your memories.

Hmm. My issue with something like this is about privacy. I mean, conspiracy theories aside, if your phone gets lost, or somebody sees the journal, or the phone gets cracked, what then? I think we have to keep in mind the human who would be using the app -- what if they get stalked or doxxed (this isn't so farfetched nowadays). Hoping the app would have some precautions.

(I did something like a note taking android app before, with password and encryption, as a concept app.)

I get your point, currently all data is stored on device locally but i am thinking on a serverless way to sync with other devices

      1. 2

Hopefully if you go this route, all user data in your server would be encrypted.

        1. 1

I donโ€™t want to store it in a central server i though more of a way to snyc it in your local network or something like this so your data stays your data

Yo, promising app. Is it possible to scan my handwritten journal entries and add them to the app?

    1. 1

Not yet, but i like that idea! It is on my roadmap to add! Hope you enjoy it anyways!

Congratulations on your app launch! Your app must be new in this competitive market and you can face problems in reaching out to the target audience. So if you want to increase your app downloads and react to a maximum number of users you must list your app on a platform called AppsHive where you can list your app for free and increase your app downloads by 43%

thanks a lot! Will check it out! it seems like it doesn't work

      1. 1

Doesn't work in terms of what?

        1. 1

When I try to submit an app this is the error i get:
The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.

Can you please hard refresh it and try it

              still not working

Awesome, I need one for engineers! ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ป

Thanks! What would you love to see to make it fit more for engineers?

  5. 2

Congrats on your app - this is a nice, clean app. Also, big props to sharing your vulnerability and turning it into something positive.
I have been thinking about writing a journaling app for Android, because I wanted lots of pretty backgrounds to choose from and the ability to hand write with a stylus. (feel free to borrow these ideas lol :)
How was your experience with Flutter? Did you develop in Flutter or on iOS before?

    1. 1

Thanks Betty, i hope you enjoy it! I have done some native stuff before but the power to write one code for flutter for ios and android, is simply incredible, also it is pretty easy do bring beautiful designs to the screen, i just canโ€™t recommend it enough!
Hope you will bring your ideas to reality aswell! Are you working on something right now?

      1. 1

I'm working on an adult coloring book app for Android because I thought all the ones in the Play Store were too expensive and not fun enough to color with IMO. Plus I love computer graphics and it's been fun to code. It's almost ready for beta!

I was looking into Flutter but decided against it because I wasn't sure how the performance with canvas and bitmap manipulation would be... So maybe one day I will just learn iOS and port this, and/or use Flutter for another project, one that doesn't use canvas :)

Congratulations on the app! I find there's an abundance of note-taking/diary apps, and what worked best for me ended up being paper and markdown ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ธ, but your description here is excellent and makes me want to try it out. I hope you find a way to differentiate and have fun building memoiri into your ideal app

My appreciation of life has improved since I picked up reflection and gratitude and hope it can also have a positive impact for you and your users :)

    1. 1

Wow thanks a lot! i appreciate it! Would love to hear that my app makes you leave paper and markdown behind :)

Congratulations. On your app, not on your break up.

Which tech stack did you use to build ios app? Looks nice though

Thanks a lot!! Would appreciate a review :) I used Flutter, it is purely local so no backend.

Congratulations, not a lot of people can extract positive from a negative experience! The app is looking pretty good.

    1. 1

Thanks a lot! It basically helped me to cope with my feelings.

  12. 2

Sorry about your heartbreak, and congrats for turning this into an opportunity to build something!

I do hope this pproject doesn't bring back painful memories though, otherwise I'd probably stop it.

I journal everyday, in a book! I don't think I would mind doing it into an app but the data would indeed be a central question for me:

    • only local (like you offer): great! But, what if I lose my phone? (I guess the same could be said about my book, but since it stays at home and is not valuable, the risk seems much lower)

    • synced online: solves the above problem, but can I trust no one will be able to read my notes?

Minor feedback on your landing page:

    • I think you can remove Privacy Policy and Imprint from the header menu (seems more like footer material)
    • You might have overdone it with the 6 Download on the App Store buttons!
    1. 2

Wow thanks a lot!!! I Understand your concern regarding lose of data, I will bring the app to desktop aswell and implement a feature where it is possible to import your entries or sync through local network something in this direction. I donโ€™t plan on putting all the data on a server.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I will reduce the download buttons to just between sections
