At some point in the marketing journey, you learn that unsubscribes are a great metric. The filters are working. The fit wasn't right. Your list is stronger for it.

I've wondered about this for IH. On one hand, of course you don't want to spam people. If someone wants off your list, then it's great that they unsubscribe. They're no longer annoyed, and you're no longer annoying them. Win-win.

On the other hand, is your list really "stronger"? Your open rates etc go up, but seems like a superficial improvement. Are there other benefits I'm not considering?

and on the flip side, I unsubscribed because I was visiting IH too much. I visit this site 3-4 times a day anyway, no need to the email updates.

the unsub doesn't mean that they weren't interested haha

It's not about the open rates (although I've heard that affects deliverability). It's about not getting worthless, or even actively terrible, feedback that makes you wanna dilute your offerings or change a million things in tiny ways to make it more "palatable" to people who are the wrong people. If you want to sell a premium product only, the tirekickers being around doesn't really help you… unless they're the rare ones who are interested enough to listen and agree, and pass it along to someone who will buy.
