1,000 people per month are searching for this keyword in the Airbnb niche. Is it a potential micro SaaS idea?

Validating ideas is hard. This is what most people do when they have a great idea:

  • Build it straight away

OR

  • Create a landing page to capture leads for a waitlist to measure the interest before building it

This can lead to a huge amount of time wasted (and a major shot at the ego). A better way of doing this is:

  • Focus on micro ideas (because these will take the least time to build and you can always add more features later)
  • Focus on micro ideas where you can target keywords with low difficulty (this means it's easy to rank high on Google) and high average monthly search volumes (this means people are currently searching for it on Google).

Below is an example of a Micro Saas Idea that fits this framework:

What's the Idea?

AirBnB Safety and Security Checklist

"A Micro Saas tool that provides the ability to create comprehensive safety and security checklists for Airbnb hosts to ensure their properties meet safety standards and regulations, providing peace of mind to both hosts and guests."

What's the SEO Potential?

Check this article out to find out why this is important.

The keyword difficulty here is really low which means it will be pretty easy to start ranking high on Google for this. We have 1 main keyword and 2 long tail keywords that you can target, all with a low difficulty of 11.

The main keyword has a nice and healthy 1000 people searching for it on Google every month while the other long tail keywords have upwards of 200 people searching for it so you could potentially gain some traffic by targeting these long tail keywords in articles on your website (see how you can do that here).

A reminder that those search volumes are for US alone so the potential for worldwide traffic is huge.

Keyword: "airbnb checklist"

  • Keyword Difficulty: 11
  • Average Search Volume: 1,000 per month

Keyword: "starting an airbnb checklist"

  • Keyword Difficulty: 11
  • Average Search Volume: 260 per month

Keyword: "first time airbnb checklist"

  • Keyword Difficulty: 11
  • Average Search Volume: 210 per month

What Could the Main Features of This Product Be?

  • Checklist Creation: Have the ability for hosts to create, customize, and manage safety and security checklists.
  • Template Library: Have predefined checklist templates that comply with various regulations and common safety standards.

Some Nice to Haves You Could Add

  • Progress Tracking: Functionality for hosts to track the completion of each checklist item.
  • Notifications and Reminders: Alerts for pending items, updates, and periodic safety reviews.
  • Reporting: Ability to generate and share safety compliance reports.
  • Educational Content: Articles, videos, and best practice guides for hosts.

Conclusion

So there we have it. A nice and simple Micro Saas product that you could start ranking in the top 10 on Google for quite easily and have 1000+ people per month find when they search for "airbnb checklist".

I'll leave you with 2 options for building your next product.

Option A: Build a product or landing page and hope that people are interested in it.

Option B: Target low difficulty keywords with high search volumes. Build your product around that, launch, add your product to directories and get traffic on autopilot.

If not then at least steal this idea!

    @tled88 This article was timely!

I started hosting my first Airbnb and quickly realized there wasn't a tool to create, dispatch, and track checklists remotely. Since I manage this remotely, I needed to ensure the cleaners maintained high standards across every part of the property.

To solve this, I built Host at Ease: www.host-at-ease.c0m

    How it works:

    • Drop your existing Airbnb link.
    • I scrape the details and pictures from the listing.
    • Generate checklist items based on the details.
    • Create a Google Form with these checklist items.
    • Collect email addresses to share the generated Google Form when needed.

Currently, I am sharing this on Reddit and Facebook groups. The adoption has been a bit slow, with just a handful of people who've tried it. I would love to learn from the community how I can get this in front of more people. Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Love this. Site looks really good!

Make sure to get the keyword "airbnb checklist" into your title, H1, Meta Description etc and then to get more traffic write a couple of blogs on "starting an airbnb checklist" and "first time airbnb checklist"!

That's a great suggestion! Thank you for that @tled88. Do you recommend writing these blogs on medium or having them in the same domain as the product? Let me know what you think is the best approach for blog writing is.
        Cheers. 🙏

I would say have the blogs on the same domain as your product so that the traffic goes straight to you.

Absolutely no harm in writing a blog on Medium too though to get more awareness!

Option 3: talk to your potential customers before spending time building a product or a landing page.

While good keywords can guarantee visitors (after some time), it doesn't mean your visitors are willing to pay for your solution.

Taking your example, what makes you think that someone will pay for a simple checklist that can probably be found on the Internet for free? You won't know until you talk to some AirBnB owners.

Do you have any success stories like this, when someone went into a niche and it was really easy to rank?

Sometimes, even with "easy" and low traffic, you don't rank unless you wait many months.

  6. 1

How do you evaluate search volume?
For example, on semrush, the provided search volume might be in the hundreds or even thousands. What do these numbers represent?
They are likely a rough reference of magnitude.

So, what magnitude of search volume and what KD (Keyword Difficulty) are worth investing in trying?

  7. 1

Keyword Volume is very low if it is an info niche search volume should be 10000 minimum.

  8. 1

It seems like "airbnb checklist" is pretty vague keyword that can refer to many things besides security and safety, but definitely love the approach!

Thanks man. I think there's intent behind that specific keyword. Could be wrong but I think there's a good opportunity there!

There are a handful of non-obvious points bound up in there:

      • finishing the Big Product takes longer, which increases risk it never ships
      • the Big Product may not be the right product to serve the niche, since it was envisioned without actual market feedback. (Example: Humane AI)
      • there may be a Better Product adjacent to the Big Product that you should build instead. Waiting until you ship the Big Product means it will take you longer to discover the Better Product. (Example: Slack started as a MMORG company.)
    2. 2

With regards to it being obvious, I have to disagree. A lot of people build fully featured products only to find that nobody is interested.

I'm not sure I understand the second part of your comment but there are indicators that tell you if a product is worth building or not. For instance if you can build your product around keywords with low difficulty and high search volumes then you always have a chance.
