Distribution > Problem > Solution > Product
What is the biggest issue almost every indiehacker, founder faces in the early days ? IMO its growth
Its why we flock towards any content piece geared towards metric based success
But writing that content or garnering eyes in 2021 can be pretty tough.
But more importantly, it's not just the content, its the distribution. If the content is King distribution is the Queen.
From that the question arose, "How do I help people personalise their outreach at scale without having them spend hours on prospecting"
So, I built out smartwriter with the pure focus on helping founders, marketers and indiehackers with early-stage growth.
Here's everything I did to get here so far (currently 22-40 sign ups a day)
Prelaunch landing page, value-focused with prototype demo showing what app does. Get the email sign up. Every place I posted about the product it was a value post around problems founders face with early stage distribution and then plugged my product. Facebook groups (startup groups, marketing groups, SaaS focused groups), Reddit subreddits (Sweatystartup, Sideproject, Entrepreneur), Community (Indiehackers, Slack groups)
Offer an LTD to early-stage users for validation (get the $ rolling else no coding)
Built-up multiple "How to blogs", where the topic was not even about my product but purely the outcome it offered. (Focus on "Whats In It For Me"), plugged smartwriter as the "how" of how I achieved this
Found targetted FB, Community, Subreddit groups where I have a boatload of content to write about the topic as well as paid communities I'm part of
Had multiple Reddit posts fail, but 2 do well when I focused on outcome of what can be achieved, which got me some decent traffic. I wrote about it here
If you wanted to skip this whole post and work out just what needs to be done? It's not as rocket science-y as one would think, I suppose.
Ask yourself what is the outcome, the superpower you're offering your customers. What will your customers become after using your product?
Then hone in on content that is geared around that value and mention your product as one of the enables. I always remember this "the best ads aren't meant to look like ads", same can be said about promotional content.
@harrydry does this as classically as a value based marketer would. Upfront value, and tiny plug at the bottom.
PS: Have I figured it out yet, nope lol, not even close, but I'll keep you updated on the progress!
Hello Vaibhav,
Took time to feature your product on ProductStartups.

I don't have your Twitter account to tweet the same as the featured product.
Good luck with what you are building.
Venkat
Lovely article there! Cheers on the growth!
So what is next for smartwriter? What other strategies are you trying now to grow?
Thanks mate! Slow and steady
For the moment, need to fix the landing page to improve conversions. Second in-app restrictions to again encourage conversions to paid.
No one else in this space is currently focused on SEO so I'm attacking that for certain very high volume, low competitive keywords.
Using the product to sell the product, offering Smartwriter to users via cold email.
Heavy on content for now, and reaching out to influencers in the space. Using the IG commenter we built to organically comment on posts and build referral traffic to our IG
Plug it in my newsletter (have 2k readers 40% Open rate)
This is for the moment, lets see what we come up with next
Also doing some greyhat things, that can be a hit or miss that I'll share with soon
