1 Month of Taking Twitter "Seriously"

Context

I've been tweeting every day of 2022 and here are the results: 📈

  • 51.8K impressions 🔼 48,306.5%
  • 11.7K Profile Visits 🔼 9,650.8%
  • 139 mentions
  • 68 Followers 🔼 45

I shared a post two weeks ago and these were my stats then:

  • 20.2K impressions
  • 4,565 Profile Visits
  • 19 Mentions

Most metrics have more than doubled...not a great feat considering how low they were 😅

1. Solo tweets don't work 🛠

When you're a small account with < 500 followers, no one really cares what you think and no matter how amazing, your posts are very unlikely to get traction. Simply because not many people are even going to see it.

Here's my only solo tweet that did 'well' (10 likes lol):

2.5k impressions and 10 likes

But that was because I linked it in a reply to a post that was going viral...

What I've found is, the only way to build an audience is replying to the tweets of other people.

Here's my most popular reply:

4.9k impressions and 40 likes

🔑 The key is in the mentions...to grow 2x I had to increase my replies 7x.

2. Find your Community 🛠

You need to find a community and engage consistently with them. The IndieHacker community is very active and provide useful tips.

Here are a few recommendations to get you started:
@dagorenouf
@tonydinh
@threehourcoffe
They all tweet about growth as an IndieHacker and @dagorenouf has some great memes.

3. Reply Consistently - Every Day ✅

The only way to grow is to keep tweeting consistently. The more you tweet, the more opportunities for people to find you and become familiar with you.

4. Timing ⏰

I've found that the communities I engage with, usually tweet between 3pm - 4pm UTC.

Replying to tweets while they're new means people are more likely to see your reply. Otherwise your tweet will get buried in hundreds of other replies.

In Conclusion

Those were just my thoughts, let me know if you have any other tips!

You're doing great @GalacticLeopard, amazing tips for beginners 🔥

Very useful yeah! I see that sometimes just a relevant reply that adds value is way more powerful than a solo tweet.

      Thanks Dago! You're an inspiration!

  2. 2

Interesting that replying is what works. Thanks for the info!

I've gone through periods of taking tweeting more seriously (i actually quite enjoy it), and saw the same big jumps in profile visits as well from it.

I did come across someone who's built up to 5K MRR and he said he got amazing reach and visibility, but very few signups from twitter.

    he focused also on linkedin.

curious, why are you trying to build your twitter? is it to get leads / signups for your project?

    1. 1

I wanted to build an audience on Twitter for a couple of different reasons:

      • Engage and connect with fellow indie makers.
      • Support when launching on ProductHunt and other platforms.

I don't really think I'll get many signups/actual users from Twitter.

      1. 1

really interesting about the support for launching.

neer thought about it from that angle!

I have experience launching a product with no audience and it was pretty brutal.

Will do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening again.

          1. 1

i had a podcast for a little bit but i used it mostly to get my ideal target audience so I could interview them lol, so i wasn't too worried about traffic.

i hear it's notoriously hard to track podcast sources?

            1. 1

Ah that's a pretty solid approach.

Not sure about tracking down podcast sources, never had a podcast myself.

              1. 1

Oh I completely misread your comment, thought you said "podcast" but saw you said "product", but glad it was helpful 😅

    Great tips! Thanks Ashish!

That makes a lot of sense, thanks Ashish. I'm right at the start of building on Twitter, so I need to hear this!

  6. 1

    Great statistics. Congrats !

To be honest that's inspiring as I'm struggling to build an audience on Twitter

Thank you! Me too, that's why I started writing this. Helps me analyze my progress and understand how to go further.
