Here's what we did:
The Reddit post was by far the most impactful thing we did, both for traffic and new signups. It was also more targeted.
Developers are one of our core audiences. Someone also saw the Reddit post and then submitted a link to Export SDK to Hacker News. ⚡️
We ended the week with a 1.8% overall conversion rate and 4.5% for Reddit specifically. For non-intent traffic, this actually isn't bad.
What we learned
The Reddit spike is real and can have network effects beyond Reddit but is short-lived. The best part was the feedback and ideas.
By popular demand, we're planning to do a video and blog series that shows developers how to turn HTML into PDFs and post to /r/javascript.
What we're doing this week
I think content and SEO is really going to help with this type of product. Have you done keyword research?
Spot on. Search is our number one focus right now. This is the type of thing people really only look for when they have a specific use case. We're working to be found when that use case is there. For SEO, I use Ahrefs and have a really solid keyword plan laid out.
Great post @rionmartin. I was expecting this to fly from day one as this is most common use case. Hopefully, it picks up in coming days..
I got it but please fix that
listlink here -Did you get any noticeable traffic/conversion from hn?
Thanks, @HumbleBear! Fixed that list link. We received 52 visits from HN but no signups. We're in it for the long haul and anticipate that meaningful revenue will take a combination of time and effort.
