10,000 downloads in 24 hours

Yesterday, the premium version of my workout tracker app, Strongify, went free. I'm not a marketer so I was a bit apprehensive about posting it on Reddit, Twitter, Product Hunt, etc.

However, what happened next went beyond all my expectations:

  • More than 10,000 downloads in 24 hours
  • Hundreds of positive feedback
  • Lots of 5 stars reviews on the App Store

It's amazing to see your app used in so many different countries. I'm looking forward to publishing even more updates 💪

P.S: For those still interested in the free Premium version, the offer will end tomorrow.

Can you share what drive the 10,000 downloads?

Different posts on Reddit and Twitter mostly where I interacted a lot with users.
I also contacted a few "apps gone free" kind of websites. Then, people spontaneously spread the word too.

Can you share the links to your posts on those platforms? Would love to learn from you approach/wording.

One of the most interesting posts was this one. https://www.reddit.com/r/AppHookup/comments/hmqdp1/ios_strongify_premium_version_free_during_the/

The wording was quite simple but I answered almost every comment. It took some time but the feedback was worth it.

so, what does 10k downloads mean, business-wise? what is the estimate of how much revenue this will do for you in the short / long-run?

Good question, my main goal here was not to make money but to make the app known to the public. I can already see that even the offer ends, people are still downloading Strongify so that's a good sign.

People love free stuff 😀Curious to know why they had such low retention though
