10 Basic Lessons from a Miserable Software Business Failure – Indie Hackers

Hey IH, I wrote this article a little while back but didn't understand how IH articles worked - so I didn't post it here to the community. Now I have! I hope chronicling these stupid things I did stops you from making the same mistakes.

  1. 1

reality of world. But anyway we should just keep going in life and should try new things to achieve our goals. But never give up. After you resigned to your job, did you find another job? How is your life going after this experience?

    1. 2

I took another job for 1.5 years, then became a freelancer!

  2. 1

I guess I "fail" on at least points 2,3 and 7.

I agree with much of the article but I'm just a stingy bastard who loves all the tech (and any other advantage) I can get!

    1. 2

That's cool! I love tech! I think you just have to acknowledge that by spending your time on those areas, you're losing time on things like sales/marketing, which are often the "harder" part of building a biz. So long as you're OK with that tradeoff, go for it!

      1. 1

I chose the technology I did because it greatly increases my productivity and saves time (compared the more mainstream options I used to use).

That's actually why I learned to program at all instead of just leaning on excel and similar tools for everything like I did in my first couple of businesses. There's definitely an up-front time cost in learning, but it gives more leverage and more velocity later.
