The SaaS industry is growing and the industry continues to move in a positive direction according to hundreds of founders we’ve interviewed.
With an estimated SaaS spend of $145B in 2022, many of us SaaS enthusiasts expect some interesting trends to follow.
Here’s a list of what some of us are saying:
Freemium plans appear to be less common
It is only in rare cases that freemium has been found to lead to a substantial increase in conversion rate for the number of paying customers. In most cases, it leads to negative product positioning, increased costs, and stifling of the business.
Large, horizontal applications are being verticalized
SaaS software products that are vertically oriented have grown massively over the past decade and will continue to grow. Vertical SaaS across industries shows huge potential, especially as companies transform digitally into intelligent enterprises and move from on-premise, in-house IT organizations to cloud-based organizations.
No-code could allow SaaS founders to do more with less effort
No-code won’t likely replace app development, but it will handle more and more use cases as time progresses.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and written content
AI writing tools aren’t perfect. But the growing dependence on technology, coupled with the need to produce content quickly to remain competitive means the use of AI writing tools will increase in 2022 and beyond.
There’ll be more founder-friendly funding options
Gone are the days when founders had to struggle to secure funding for their growing SaaS business. Founders can now achieve a lot with a wider range of funding options from TinySeed, Lighter capital, and more.
Branding may become more important in crowded spaces
Branding isn’t about the company’s logos and colors. It’s about our people, and what others say when we aren’t looking. Also, building the personal brands of our people matters because it helps build trust for our organization. When the employees become the voice for the organization, the organization becomes trustworthy and authentic communication takes over.
SaaS exits will continue at a breakneck pace
There are more people interested in SaaS acquisitions now than there were a few years ago. Platforms such as MicroAcquire have made it easier for buyers to find the SaaS companies they need.
