Hi fellow indiehackers I recently scraped the entire chrome extension store for all extensions with more than one download.
Would love to know if anyone would be interested in a site or a simple database.
Start with just a database. Most people will be able to manipulate the data on their own. If it gets traction build the site out.
May I ask you what could be the marketing value of this? After all, the store is free to access. Do you want to offer a better set of queries? Why the ">1 downloads" requirement, btw?
Well, I'm currently testing out marketing on Twitter handle: saassniper with a smaller batch count. It's something I scraped to aid in unbundling the chrome web store using the web store is just a lot of pagination and scrolling and not able to see a lot of the statistics. The idea was to make that process easier. The reason for having more than one download is for example on productivity chrome extensions with more than or equal to one download came out to < +40,000 rows all extensions being current.
Without that filter, it could have been over a 100k majority being dormant chrome extensions not available with the latest version of chrome.
I'm unbundling the chrome web store for personal use anyhow to find better extensions to remake with my own twist. I scraped all the data myself and it was a pain after seeing posts similar on product hunt thought might as well see what I can do with all the data I've gathered.
