100.000 users and $10k MRR MoM over 13 months on a super fast AI assistant

Hey folks!
Some of you might remember me from early January last year, when I posted here about my side project iOS wrapper for GPT.

That app (https://apps.apple.com/za/app/frank-ai-chat-assistant/id6444862862) just reached 100.000 users organically and has been doing around $10k MRR MoM for the last 13 months, without a single $ on marketing spend.

To celebrate the milestone I'm doing a massive revamp of the product to celebrate the milestone, adding some cool features like GPT4 vision, Midjourney capabilities, PDF uploads, a new web version and much more.

Also sharing some insights on how I got revenue without any spending on marketing:

ASO: 90% of my initial strategy relied on optimising ASO (App Store Search Optimisation), on a rolling monthly basis. I wanted to see how far I could take the app organically. It's free, its easy to learn, and if you get it right it can be very rewarding.

Product hunt: Didn't do much honestly, it's mostly full of bots these days and doesn't get you many users, and the ones who make it high on the lists usually pre-empt their launches with existing users. I didn't have any users back then, so I spent about 1-2 hours getting a launch done

Ads: Once I hit $10k MRR organically, I started experimenting with some basic Apple Ads, but never actually put money in it, since the product was doing well without it and I figured I'd keep pushing organic.

Emails: I've sent 1 email to users throughout this entire year, which netted me 29 new subs. Could probably have done more on emails but simply didn't have time
