+1000 users with 2 subreddits for my ai cooking assistant
Hey IndieHackers! Last week, I built Basyl a cooking assistant as an experiment around AI.
I started by posting about my product, on the ReactJS and NextJS subreddits. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with users generating over +1000 recipes in just a few days.
I also received invaluable feedback that helped me improve the product. I just have added an advanced generator to generate more specific recipes.
For anyone looking to start sharing their product, I highly recommend posting on subreddits related to your tech stack. It's a great way to receive invaluable feedback and features ideas.
While I'm not entirely sure about the direction of the product, it’s a very cool first experiment with AI.

Would be really nice if you could "train" the AI.
For example: I really like food that is super healthy. Basically what you are doing in the "advanced" section
Good idea! It might be possible to allow Basyl to understand your food preferences and suggest recipes, meal plans, etc.

Do you have any competition in this space? I think it could be developed into a fully featured product, including many use cases.
there are a lot of things to help you cook, in AI there have been a few for a few months. Great ideas, I'm exploring the next features to add. stay tuned!

Tried again with same prompt: 'steak, potatoes, brussels sprouts' and this time it did go all the way. Sporadic issues can always happen, but my point was that if this is intentional (for the demo) you should note that.
Anyway, really cool idea and I love public demo's like yours!
Nice, what makes you go for a website instead of a mobile app?
I wanted to start with a website to go quickly and test the idea. A mobile app makes a lot of sense, I'll head there if I keep getting traction!
