What an incredible feeling. Less than 30 days since getting out of beta and starting paid subscriptions, Banter has paying customers and around $120 MRR with a few annual subs!
Lessons learned for me:
- Push through the imposter syndrome, just throw stuff out there, very few people are going to judge me harder than I judge myself.
- The 3 best things to help with anxiety of building: good sleep, exercise, and doing work
- Take smaller bites, doing too much at a time just makes everything incomplete. Smaller features, more iterative messaging.
Next steps, marketing stuff that Iām much more comfortable doing in comparison to building product:
- Get further feedback from beta users who have not yet converted
- Experiment and invest in organic traffic, search, Linkedin and Pinterest
- Get featured in the Slack marketplace.
Well done!
So many great elements working for you here. The water cooler bottle logo - style is goofy enough to make the point of the innocence of idle chatter at work, but surrounded by very tight and professional layout and UX makes the visitor feel like it's safe.
The examples are playful and easy to get pulled into. Things you can be pretty sure HR won't give you any trouble over.
Big type, short phrasing gets to the core of the pitch quickly. I understood the product very quickly, without actually working left to right and top to bottom.
Timing seems to be excellent as well - the big worry right now is keeping hybrid and remote working systems alive in the long run to keep employees. This kind of thing is a simple, small, easy step in that direction. I can see this getting some excellent traction on referrals between HR managers in medium-sized offices and office managers in smaller outfits.
Best of luck, have fun and congratulations - your lessons learned were absolute gold standard.
Thank you for all the kind word ynac!
I definitely think I got something right with the design/branding.
Initially, I wanted to get the bot to get into more vulnerable topics, but I got a lot of early feedback that no one felt comfortable doing that on Slack. So I doubled down on the light and fun aspects.
Thanks again!

Congratulations Raymond! Love this: "Per user billing is kind of whack" šI know someone always bemoaning that monetization style. definitely refreshing to see a pay-per-channel app! Good luck on your next steps, hope to see more updates from you
Hahaha thanks Mekkie! Will definitely be posting updates.

Love the site Raymond, and see you got some impressive customer logos too! All the best.
Thanks akhilmk! I had some really giant fish logos come in as beta users but they haven't continued on and I didn't feel comfortable putting their logos up there haha.
