yeah I appreciate the way he sums up his process in the end with a reminder that people don't use your app to use your app. your app is a means to an end and the less they notice the app (achieved by streamlining and simplifying) the better.

it's so easy to focus on how to impress the user with the app...but. really, that's almost a fail. the greater goal is for the app to be so easy and so good at achieving the end goal that the user hardly notices the app at all.

I think my favorite on the list was his call out to use different terms for “sign in” and “sign up”. He's basically saying, don’t use, “Sign in” and “Sign up” – which requires me to think for half a second whether I want “in” or “up”. Instead, go with options like “Register” vs. “Sign in”, or other pairs of options that are more than 2 letters apart to save users time.

That was a great reminder. ✨

I really like the actionable tips. When it comes to UX, I really like Don't Make Me Think by Steve Krug. Really neat book.

Principles like the ones outlines in the article are pretty good on a micro level, but if you want to see the "forest for the trees" then books like "Don't Make me Think" really help.

Great article, I really resonated with #3! I hate it when I'm filling out an email form field and it starts validating the email address before I'm even done typing. "Please enter a valid email address" 🚨. Like give me a second, please!
