150 waitlist signups in 5 days
After invalidating an idea for Text-to-Image generation API, I decided to build a simple image generation interface for fun – getimg.ai. I launched it on Reddit last weekend and over the last 5 days I saw the traffic I could not predict:
- 130k impressions on Reddit
- 14k pageviews / 7k unique users
- 80k generated images
- 150 waitlist signups
- $100 revenue (payments implemented after launch)
Overall 150 signups motivate me the most to keep going and build the features people want.
Curious to know how did you get these many impressions on Reddit?

Wouldn't Reddit ding you for self-promotion? I heard a lot of frustrated IH'es complain about it.
Had this experience before. This time I chose the communities that I thought would really like the product.

This looks pretty decent, kudos to you. I was of the opinion self promotions in reddit is impossible.
It's possible if you choose the right communities and are not too pushy, or aggressive.
I'm suuuper curious - how do you track if the share has happened, to see if a user should be moved up on the list?

What did you use to set up a waitlist? Does the form just email you with their sign-up, or are you using a tool to collect these signups? Thanks!

The form collects the data from input fields and sends it to the waitlist database dashboard where you can view the ranked position of all submissions with their referral links. You can also connect to Slack, webhook, or email to receive instant notifications on new signup.

But I'd say be very careful on how you interpret the numbers. 150 is plenty. But with 7k unique visitors, that's about a 2% conversion. Not saying it's good or bad but I find it more useful to look at the percentage :)

Here it wasn't my primary goal to get signups. I literally explained it with one word, understood by people who keep up with news about Stable Diffusion. So the 150 signups were a nice surprise, even if that's just 2%.
In the first hours I've got 90% conversion for generating images ;) Having problems with scaling and costs, I needed for the first time in my life to decrease the conversion rate ;)

Yep it's Grafana. The data itself is taken from the project's DB & Plausible. (ps: Grafana rocks!)

I see a lot of ads on Instagram and TikTok offering the same service; maybe an idea for you too?
I don't have a budget for that. I will go organic.

The good thing is, you should be able to easily get organic views with this service. All you need is a nice girl haha
