Hi Hackers!
I wanted to give advice on offering free trials for your products.
Free trials are an essential part of a SaaS business model. They are the ultimate way to accomplish the following:
During the trial process, you really shouldn't aim to provide customers with the true value that your software provides. Instead, you want to focus on really highlighting the capabilities & the value that it will bring them if they were to sign up for a paid plan.
Take Shopify for example. Shopify offers a no credit-card free trial. They give you complete control over your store during that free-trial period. You can design the website, add products & categories, and generally build out your eCommerce website.
However, what happens when you're ready to start advertising/promoting the site?
They don't allow you to!
Your Shopify store is password protected, and in order to remove that password protection, you have to select a plan & enter your credit card information.
This is how it's done. Get your users invested in your software by showing them the potential of what it can do. Make it easy for them to start interacting & using it.
As soon as they get to the truly valuable points of your software, tell them they need to select a plan to continue.
Thanks for this good reminder @cpope!
It's true that it's always difficult to chose between offering a free trial, a free version or notion.
All options have advantages and disadvantages that need to be considered.
