155 signups from the landing page launch on PH, can I consider my idea validated?

So I'm about to close the pre-beta early access for my first ever product. 138 people signed up so far, since the product hunt 'launch'. The MVP will be ready for our first users in approx 2 days. While at this point I consider my idea validated and start focusing on feedback, I'm curious as to what the community considers as criteria for validation (the number of signups for example.) What do you think?

edit: from 35 to 155!

Oh BTW, the product I'm referring to is poroapp.com , the most beautiful and simple productivity tool in the world (hopefully 🙃).

I don't know what PH page has (you didn't provide the link and search didn't find it) but I suspect people sign up just out of curiosity because there is no any clue what the app is about. So, I wouldn't consider it as a firm validation.

I'm pretty sure that any generally apperceptive person can understand what the app is about. It's just that it combines some elements in a way I've not seen done before. I also think that my emphasis on design is appealing to a particular set of people as well. Thanks for your input though!

I'm a little confused with your launch on PH. Like you, I also wanted to launch my landing page on PH. But previously I had chat with PH support and got next response:
"Thanks for reaching out. We feature only those products that can be used by the community members right away.To build a community of early users, you can use Ship: https://www.producthunt.com/ship :)"
So, is it ok to launch a landing page without a product behind on PH?

I didn't know about that honestly 🙃. I'm pretty sure you can just launch it. Did you attempt?

      1. 1

No, I didn't. But now I am going to. 🙂

I'm just confused when I go to the landing page. Honestly I have zero clue what you are even building...I'm guessing people signed up just out of curiosity more than anything.

hmm. because most of the traffic is from PH, where I have encapsulated what it does (or aim to be), I guess the landing page is not the most important currently. Although I did not by any means intend it to be comprehensive, (its just an image for now), I certainly must do so when its time to grow. thank you for noting!

what a well crafted landing page, btw do you use other service like mailchimp to gather email in that page, or you code it yourself (I mean DIY from scratch) ?

    1. 1

ok, this was a major point of confusion for me. For now, all the emails and names are stored in my app db lol. I tried to integrate mailchimp, but the API is clunky ant it didn't work out. I send emails from a tool called mailjet, its quite affordable to start with. The only thing is that you gotta manually upload the email list.

what a spirit, build it like a lego and improve along the way, but you have a great taste of design, love it

    Hi Jenulius,
First off, as a fellow design nerd, wow Poro's landing page is gorgeous!

Like lots of others have said, crossing from free to paid is a the biggest validation point after beta users.

thanks for your tips! about the design, I just put it together in about 10 mins. believe it or not the inputs are not even styled lol. but will do a major redesign once properly established and entering growth phase.

        You're very welcome!

I sent you an email about growth. I can help you with your marketing while keeping the beauty of the brand at the forefront.

Next step is paying users, this gets you closer tp product market fit. Then start iterating based on what caused those users to pay. Once you have a cycle of users joining and converting, say 10%+.

    You got your validation.

    1. 1

      yes, thats the plan

Dang, if only you had reached 140, that's the magic number :) j/k congrats, I think it's a great start! Best of luck!

    Hey Jenulius,

First of all, congrats on your PH launch!

I'd go deeper and see how many people will subscribe/buy/pre-pay.

    1. 1

yes, but what I'm going to do is evolve the product using feedback from my initial users to a point where they would pay for it. Then, its all about growth IMO.

138 is a good number but you should provide the context to help us to be more precise.
For example, are you talking about PH Ship page? Was it paid? How long have you been showing it?

    1. 1

I just launched on product hunt with a few thumbnails from the design and its been there for about a week I think. It lead people to visit the barebones landing page I coded in 10mins to sign up.

Hey Jenulius, that's great specially in a crowded niche like productivity.. Validation has multiple layers in my opinion this number proves that a group of people are interested in your product (i.e desirability). Would they stick? Would they be willing to pay afterwards are all other layers of validation that you still need to confirm with your MVP?

Wish you the best with poroapp.com

thanks for your response! TBF, my goal with this project is to get my feet in the ocean, just to test the waters. I'm taking this step by step for now ✌️

Got you, then that's a good starting point for sure. ✌️
