Recently, I wrote an article about my experiences selling low-cost digital products. I got several questions about the specific types of products, so I thought I'd publish this list to help spark some ideas.
Of course, there are endless possibilities for digital products, but here are some product types you might want to consider, depending on your niche or industry.
This list focuses on what I would consider "simple" products that are often quick and relatively easy to create.
Printable products like journals, planners, checklists, and other templates are incredibly popular right now. Best of all, there are possibilities for just about any topic or niche. Of course, printables are popular at Etsy, but you can also sell from your own site.
You can sell budget templates, meal planners, fitness trackers, or really any type of spreadsheet that helps people to stay organized. Some of these spreadsheets may be used for a similar purpose as the printables in the previous point, but the format is different.
Have some design skills? You can create templates for Pinterest pins, Instagram Stories, Facebook covers, resumes, or any other type of template that you think people might want to use. Of course, you can also create templates for other programs, but Canva templates are really popular.
๐ฏ Grab this free idea validation checklist to be sure there's a market for your product or business before launching.
Notion is a versatile tool that has become incredibly popular in recent years. If you know how to use Notion, creating templates for things like weekly planners, project management systems, or study guides could be a great product to sell. The possibilities are endless. It really just depends on your topic or niche.
Many people use PowerPoint or Google Slides for work, school, or personal projects. You can create themed templates that others can purchase and customize for their own presentations.
Similar to Canva templates, you can create resume templates in various formats (Word, Google Docs, InDesign) for people to use when creating their own resumes. People often appreciate the convenience and professional look of using a template rather than starting from scratch.
This is a broad category and could include any number of different things. For example, a few years ago I took a photography trip to Acadia National Park. When I was planning the trip, I purchased a digital guide to the park written by a photographer who's photographed there many times.

If you're a photographer, you can license your photos either at your own site or through popular stock marketplaces. It's a competitive market, but it's still possible to make some money.
Creating stock graphics is another option for designers. Photoshop files, icons, illustrations, vectors, etc. Of course, AI-generated images are also a possibility now too.
If you're a videographer or have drone footage, consider selling it as stock video. The demand for quality stock footage is still strong.
Composers, musicians, and sound designers can sell their work as royalty-free stock audio or music. You can also create sound effects and other audio clips.
If you're a designer and have created unique fonts, you can sell them either directly on your own site or through popular font marketplaces like Creative Market or many others.
Some software provides opportunities for simple add-ons. I've sold things like Lightroom presets, as well as Photoshop actions, brushes, and shapes.
๐ Subscribe to Founder Reports for in-depth interviews and case studies featuring top entrepreneurs, founders, and creators.
There are all kinds of different patterns you could create and sell, like sewing patterns, quilt patterns, knitting patterns, embroidery patterns, etc.
Coloring pages are popular for adults and children alike. You can create a huge variety of coloring pages, from mandalas to animals to landscapes.
Writing an eBook is often easier than you think. Your ebook doesn't have to be hundreds of pages. You may even be able to repackage some content you've already written. Plus, it makes a great way to establish yourself as an expert in your niche.
Online courses can be quite lengthy and complex to create, but other courses can be simple. Start with something small and see how it goes. If it works well, you could expand into more in-depth courses.
Of course, those are just a few possibilities. There are many more options, especially when it comes to templates. Hopefully, this list gives you some ideas you can implement in your own business.
Good post Marc, and just remember if you can make digital products that are evergreen all the better ๐
Yes, I agree. I had photography-related products that sold for years. Actually, they're still selling now, several years after I sold the website.
All examples here are perfectly legit and can work. Good starting points for the builder/hacker in people.
I'd highlight the fact that this is ultimately a numbers game. If you dive into any of these, do so with intent to create as many variants or options as possible on a frequent basis. That will build awareness and technically develop proof, as well as create more instances where reviews can accumulate.
Great article!
You can also sell UI kits, design systems, and plugins in the Figma community.
I'm actively engaged in this right now and gradually increasing my revenue every month.

Yes, those are perfect examples. Thanks for sharing. I used to sell PSD files and UI elements for Photoshop, back in the day before Figma.

The best long-term option is to sell on your own site. You'll control your customer/email list, which isn't the case if you sell on another platform. Generally, you can also sell for higher prices. The competition on marketplaces often drives prices down. Aside from Etsy, you can sell on marketplaces like Amazon, Creative Market, Creative Fabrica, Filter Grade, and deal sites like Ultimate Bundles, Mighty Deals, InkyDeals, and many others. Of course, not each type of product will fit at each marketplace or deal site, but there are options for most niches if you look around.
Nice list.
To add to the "Notion template" point - you can generate and sell templates for basically every tool that lets its users publish content to the web. Someone in the comments mentioned Figma, which is a great example. And it's also true for tools like Whimsical, Miro, Mural, etc.
Terrific advices for terrific tools
I guess, selling ebooks is way easier. Because when someone want everything at one place. They find it valuable.
oh hey, I sell dog coloring pages at https://wannadog.com

Great example! Thanks for sharing it.
no problem!!
"Notion templates" is an amazing niche.
I met a few folks who make 500-1K each month from selling them.
Agreed. This is a product idea I'm looking into at the moment.
Great list, I just launched What Online Business Should I Start? ๐ maybe you and other will find it useful https://www.online-business-ideas.com/
The best part you can start everything without any expertise :)
The focus on simple ideas and various niches make it accessible and inspiring
Yes, I agree. More complex products (like very in-depth courses) work well too, but I think the simple digital products are an easier starting point.
