How do you create your landing pages and how fast?

I guess this really goes down to how comfortable you feel about building a landing page yourself. Squarespace I think will be the best one of the 3 in terms of final product and quality. If you want to go a bit deeper, maybe you could get a $50 Wordpress theme and build a better site.

Still, I wouldn't really care about this that much. Use whatever works for you from a perspective of time, money, knowledge, etc. To me, the key point is copywriting and storytelling. Drive users to your call to action with words.

I suggest reading the book 'Building a Story Brand' by Donald Miller. You will go through it fast, it's a very easy to read one, and you will end up with a custom script for your product based 100% on the hero of your story: your customer.

Whatever is the fastest, cheapest and most effective method for you. If that’s Squarespace then it’s not a cop.

I have a template I use and just swap out the content, takes me little time once I’ve written the content, but that’s not for everyone.

It really depends what you prioritize (quality vs. speed) and what your customers expect. If you are launching a very niche product for developers, you could afford to "cop out" and just nail the messaging. However, if you are creating the next Instagram, a certain wow factor might be necessary.

To give an example, I just launched Workcapsule, which targets a customer base similar to Asana, Slack, etc. I figured the expectations will be high, and decided to do a custom build. The design + coding took about 4 days, and another couple to finalize the copy.

Here was my process:

1. Spent half a day looking through OnePageLove and Lapa.Ninja to catch up on latest trends
2. Rough design in Sketch, with a focus on info flow
3. Create all the graphics + demo
4. Grab a css library (e.g., Bootstrap, Bulma, etc) and make minor adjustments
5. Create website using a static generator

Well, some people say not to create your own, but it really depends on how fast you can design/develop something. I created https://scratchpod.io in 5 hours yesterday using Mailchimp and a Zapier webhook.

The complexity of the design is the big question. If you want total control, it's worth the time to build it yourself.

I use wordpress, because I know how to crack the code and change pages etc. faster than ever. Actually cannot complain and find WP better than any other CMS. I tried WIX just being curious how it goes and then realized it has something that must be redone by developers of WIX...

We are on the other side of this boat. We spent quite some time on our landing page design. The reasons we came to this decision:

1. We have an awesome Frontend Developer aboard. He is not a designer though. However, given some time we thought we can craft something good enough.

2. We wanted our landing page to be unique and to be able to present all the aspects of our product through it.

3. We absolutely LOVE what we try to accomplish here and we LOVE the process! The hours we spent designing, iterating and coding the landing page have made up some good memories for our team.

We even added Hotjar, noticed where the users struggled most and revisited parts of the design.

Certainly, it's not perfect! There is room for improvement, but we love it as it is right now. And we decided to focus on what really matters to us, which is building a killer product, not a killer landing page.

Result: We've had ~500 unique visitors and 49 collected emails until today, a C/R of ~10%, which is a very good number I think. Thus, I think it paid off.
