1st launch ever: ReflectDaily - get 1% better every day!

Hey Indie Hackers,

I've been building reflectdaily.app for a couple of weeks now as a part of building in public initiative (I started on twitter). This is the first time I'm doing it so it's all new to me and would appreciate any advice!

ReflectDaily.app started as something I would use myself (I'm always trying to be more mindful) plus I wanted to build something simple and play with the latest tech.

You can see how it works here:
Demo

This is really a super basic first launch and some of the obvious functionalities are missing (e.g. you cannot edit a reflection once submitted), but I set as a goal for myself to launch it today so here I am :)

Looking forward to any feedback and suggestions you might have!

Actually I just recently started a daily reflection by myself. I'm doing this in Notion.

I want to make my thought process open to you, to help you:

    • Now that I just started my reflection routine, I'm thinking "Wait, maybe I do it with Matija's App... Just to help him:her out building this."
    • "Naaah. If I do a daily self-reflection, I definetly want to look at this months/years later. I want to do it with something, where I can be sure, that the plattform is stable and still there in x years"
    • "Also: What is actually better? In Notion I have AI assistants, many known functionalities"

    TL;DR
Mate, it's great that you started building! 👍 You're a hero!
I would definetly make clear in all my acquisition channels (like this post here) why your solution is better then notion/all other personal doc software.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful and insightful post! I truly appreciate this and I'm really grateful you took the time to share your thoughts.

Really cool to hear you're already doing it in Notion. Is there anything specific you like about it? Is your process somehow different, anything that works super well for you?

I agree with all of your points. I was also doing in Notion initially but I liked the idea of having a nice interface for entering my daily thoughts so that's where it all started from. I have ideas for more features so let's see if that can make it more valuable :).

I could also offer an option to e.g. export your reflections to CSV, that might reduce the risk for new users.

Uuu do you reflect on the development of the app in the app? 😛

      I do, actually! 🤓

Congratulations on the launch - I had my first launch this week as well. Half the battle is getting used to putting things out there in the world for others to use and judge!

Thanks so much for your comment! What did you launch? Would love to learn about your product!

Thanks for your interest, Its called Props AI! Feel free to search for it on Product Hunt as I am not allowed to post links here yet.

Looks great! I'm curious though, what makes reflecting on this site better than say just simply writing down my daily thoughts on the notes app on my phone. Moreover, writing down thoughts on my phone is more convenient, feels a little bit safer (because it's not online), and more familiar.

To add a suggestion onto this, I feel like maybe some sort of reward system which incentivises users to stay consistent to their daily reflections might be helpful?

      1. 1

oh yes, that for sure! I plan to introduce something like streaks, to see how many days in a row you've been active. That always works for me.

Thanks a lot Johny! I see your points. One thing I had in mind is that I could potentially encrypt the entries in database, so you know your reflections are private. And since the application is open source nobody has to take my word for it :)

It would be nice if the app would work without requiring me to login! Please make that a feature.

    1. 1

How did you imagine that? I couldn't really differentiate between users if there is no user profiles. Or did you mean just by saving an id into local storage?

  6. 1

Nice idea! I just tried it out.

    A little advice:

    • On your landing page, the "Start reflecting" button should redirect to the signup page, not the login page.

    • For the Rating, emojis rather than numbers would be a cool idea. And put 3 or 5 options, for example: Nightmare, Bad, Normal, Good, Perfect.

Congratulations on your first project! And good luck!

    • I need more information before signing up. It's hard to know how this will help me or what exactly I can do here. Or I want to see app screenshots.
    • I like your reflection questions.
    • Long sentences are hidden in the reflections list.

    My reflection habit:
I post a weekly update on Notion every week.
1 What I achieved this week
2 A preview of what will be achieved next week
    3 What I learned, what I thought
