2 Weekend MVP build to help me quit porn. Introducing Streeeak

I'd like to introduce Streeeak.com an app that helps you form or break habits in public.

I designed the app to combine two powerful habit-building strategies. The Seinfield (or don't break the chain) Strategy, and social accountability.

The Seinfield Strategy

The Seinfeld strategy is simple. You pick a habit you want to form and do it every day. Every time you complete the habit, you mark down an X on your calendar for that day.

“After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job is to not break the chain.”

I have renamed this chain to a Streeeak. Every day you complete your new habit or don't do your bad habit you add to your Streeeak.

Social Accountability

"When you are accountable to someone or a group of people for doing what you said you would do, you can easily get stuff done because you engage the power of social expectations."

Streeeak is designed to help you build or break habits in public via Twitter. When you first create a Streeeak, the app allows you to automatically inform your Twitter followers of your new Streeeak and prompts them to hold you accountable. It can also automatically send a tweet when you break your Streeeak.

Why quit porn?

Because it makes a clickbaity title for a post of course. Idk, I have tried to stop watching porn a few times because of how much it fucks with your dopamine levels and motivation. In the past, I've never made it more than a few days. I stopped again when I started working on the app and I'm still going strong. So maybe I'm on to something here.

Building the app

I spent the last 2 weekends, roughly 20 hours, building the MVP of this app.
I probably could've done it faster but I wanted to take the chance to learn a new tech stack.

• Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions)
• Twitter API
• Next JS

Firebase is dope, I definitely recommend any devs who haven't used it before to give it a try. It's awesome to have everything you need to deploy an app in one place. Fireship.io has some great videos for getting started and some of the more advanced features.
