Part 1: Ideas 1-20

Idea #21: Podcast that publishes new audio workouts three times per week. It’d be like having a personal trainer in your ears. There could be different hosts and different shows for different kinds of workouts and different fitness levels of listeners.

Idea #22: A ribbon or something that people can wear on their harnesses while rock climbing to silently signal to other climbers nearby that they’re looking for a belay partner for the night. Asking strangers can be awkward. A universal symbol like this could help.

Idea #23: Search for the name of a movie and get back a list of podcast episodes (with timestamps) where the hosts talk about that movie. Would be cool if you could stream these audio clips directly in a web browser one after another like a playlist.

Idea #24: Connect Plex and Letterboxd accounts so users can filter films in Letterboxd based on whether or not they’re available for streaming on any of the Plex servers the current user has access to

Idea #25: Video games sometimes depict real historical places, like Notre Dame. When players visit these locations in-game, they should be able to donate real money and have that money get sent to and benefit that place in real life.

Idea #26: Eye tracking built into car windshields so that a car can detect when the driver isn’t looking at the road and can make an annoying beeping sound if the driver’s eyes have been off the road for too long.

Idea #27: When you come to a 4-way stop at an intersection at the same time as another driver, it’s annoying trying to figure out who should go first. Stop signs should be able to detect these scenarios and use embedded lights to direct drivers through the intersection.

Idea #28: When your car’s alarm goes off you get a push notification on your phone that lets you see what the cameras on your car are seeing. You can also speak into your phone to project your voice through your car’s speakers in case you want to yell at someone.

Idea #29: Pillowcases that have flaps sewn in that can be used to cover your eyes and block out light when trying to fall asleep

Idea #30: Wooden furniture that’s held together with small, strong magnets instead of with nails and screws. Push a button to disable the magnets and disassemble everything, which will make it easier to move.

Idea #31: Magnetic buttons on jackets so that I don’t need to zip, button, or snap anything anymore. Just bring the two halves of the jacket close together to close it up.

Idea #32: Website that ranks common products and activities by their environmental impact and teaches people how to change their behaviors to make their habits more environmentally friendly. What are the highest-impact, lowest-effort changes that people can tackle right away?

Idea #33: An app that you can use to donate money to plant real trees. The app keeps track of how many trees you’ve planted and how “grown up” they are by showing you and letting you interact with a virtual garden. Grow your garden, save the planet.

Idea #35: Lego fans can submit designs for new Lego sets by using the Lego Ideas program. Theme park enthusiasts should be able to prototype and submit ideas for new rides and attractions through video games such as Roller Coaster Tycoon or Planet Coaster.

Idea #36: A restaurant with a menu composed entirely of previously patented recipes whose patents have expired because they were filed 20+ years ago. Each food item could include a history about who owned the patent, why the patent was filed, what the patent looked like, etc.

Idea #37: Some kind of hard cover you can lay over the stovetop in your kitchen to expand your counter space when you don’t need to do any cooking on the stove

Idea #38: Some kind of sensor I can put in my apartment that will let me know if I’m making too much noise while exercising. I want to stay fit, but I don’t want to be a dick to my downstairs neighbors while doing it.

Idea #39: 3D print fake fingernails at home that have really intricate designs. There could be a subscription service that delivers new nail designs to users every week that are created by well-known artists.

Idea #40: App that can analyze all the comments posted for a given URL and generate a word cloud so people can quickly visualize the main topics of conversation happening in the comments section on any website
