Why do you participate in a survey?

I actually like surveys, so I'm more likely to do one than not. The reward doesn't always matter to me, but I do prefer 'everyone who fills this out gets X reward or discount' vs having a chance at a bigger prize. For instance, I'll take a few minutes to win a $5 or $10 starbucks card, no problem.

That said, I only fill out surveys when I actually have something to contribute. I won't just do a random survey and pick "not applicable" for each reply. :)

I submit only when:

• I get something of value - not a chance to win but a specific reward - does not need to be huge
• I know how many questions

Example:

• Steam: I receive the results of the survey (Who has what hardware and where am I)
• Google: Credits to buy books and games

I rarely contribute to surveys tbh. I find people ask customers to fill them out too much. Even something as simple as rating someone after a purchase, I use to do in the old days, but not anymore.

But I do occasionally fill out surveys:

• if they are not too long
• if I can get a discount (and if it is a product I was going to use or buy from anyways)
• if I think I can help and add value
• if the goal of the survey seems like something well thought out

It just seems interesting to contribute. If I have opinions in some particular topic and there's a survey about it I'll be happy to help, especially if it's for some interesting study. If it doesn't sound interesting or if I know nothing about that topic I'll skip.

Thanks everyone! Users of kanochart.com don't always have access to (the right) people to survey and that is why I wanted to ask you all what made you participate in one. The key message seems to be that people want to contribute (even if there's money involved, having something to contribute is the real motivator).

So thanks again! I'll be setting up a campaign to recruit people to sign up for surveys so that they can help fellow makers/product managers/indiehackers make great products.
