    By end of February:

    25 Premium Subscribers 13/25

Launch Feastflow v2 with job alerts for Frontend and Designer Freelancers. Currently aiming for releasing the new alerts in 4 days.

    YESTERDAY

Lots of emails to prospective writers for a new business I am launching. Got 2 new subscribers from posting free project leads on Facebook which was exciting.

    TODAY

Finishing a $600 freelance job that has been distracting me from my businesses.
Putting the finishing touched on the v2 site update.
Getting all of my post content ready for posting on Product Hunt, HN, IH, Reddit. We got a bunch of sign ups for Feastflow Premium when we first launched so a well executed launch could possibly double out business.

    WIP: Feastflow.com

It seems like you're pretty well organized with a plan for posting! Are you already in Reddit with approval to post?

Pretty neat idea for freelancers, especially if you have the pipeline skills to get the leads in! How do you stop the lead from being saturated if you have 5,000 subscribers? I can foresee a certain kind of individual (or development shop) taking advantage of this to the detriment of the others. They're the ones who lowball bid every decent project with outsourced work from other countries :/

      1. 1

This is prolly like my dozenth product launch haha so I have some experience with launch posts. Its really important(especially on Reddit and PH) to tell a story with you and deliver as much value as possible. I've learned that the more effort you put in the better engagement and conversations you can start so its something I spend quite a few hours on.

So we have a Free list which has a few hundred subscribers who only get a couple leads a week and then a Premium list which get 5-10 per week tailored to their skills. The Premium list also has a maximum size so that the leads stay valuable and don't get diluted. We've had some of those kinds of shops try our service but they usually don't last long since our leads are only interested in high quality freelancers and can smell BS from a mile away.

    EPIC

    By end of 2019:

Get 100 paying customers. 0/100 so far

    By end of February:

Publically release of Brooklet to IOS and Android app stores.

Get 15 Beta testers. 6/15 so far. Not sure I'll hit this but its NBD.

    YESTERDAY

    Finish stream list redesign
Start on new event adding modals

    TODAY

Continue on new event adding modals
Start collecting materials for public release at the end of the month.

    WIP - Brooklet

    1. 1

This is really neat! I've signed up for early access. I finished Atomic Habits a few weeks ago, and have been putting some of that advice to use. I was about to create an Evernote to keep track. This seems like a much better solution.

      1. 1

        Thanks :)
I'm working on a redesign which I'd like to polish before sending you the invitation. Soon though! Here's a preview https://imgur.com/a/QHOx2Qw

        1. 1

Looks good! Two questions, what framework are you using for the app, and what did you use to make the recording?

          1. 1

React native and aws-amplify for the client (minus all the graph ql stuff)
AWS with Serverless framework for cloud-side.

    2. 1

I'm with you on the beta testers :) I'm going to have to focus heavy on that if I'm going to hit my goals!

      1. 1

I was thinking of buying adds, but I think I'll wait til its in the app store.

  3. 6

    EPIC

    By end of 2019:

100 paying customers. 5 earned to date.

    By end of February:

    • 50 qualitative first chapters published by women. 10/50
    • 25 submissions and/or third chapters written. 4/25

    YESTERDAY

Mostly chatted with customers. Continued the geek girl outreach.

    TODAY

Put together an email to encourage interactions among existing customers. And lots of outreach follow up.

KUDOS:@davey for giving his customers what they really want!

    WIP: Happy Endings

    1. 2

Are you doing any live calls at all with the customers? Or how are you chatting?

      1. 1

Nope. (Laughing!) Given the subject matter, I can barely manage email chatter. Unlike the rest of y'all, my customers will tolerate only a few inquiries. Don't nobody want to know their love (or lust) story is being monitored!

But I have managed a few super fans. And those are willing to go in more depth about their experience.

    • Get Vimalin for Fusion at the same level as Vimalin for Windows
    • Have 5 paid users for Vimalin for Windows.
    • Improve my marketing (SEO/Product Hunt/Youtube)

    YESTERDAY:

    • SEO day 5 of n. This is basically a rewrite of the content. So far 21 out of 45 pages have been rewritten.
Several new pages have been added time. At SEO day 1 I started with only 30 pages, now there are 46)

    TODAY:

    • SEO day 6 of n.

    WORK IN PROGRESS

Automated Virtual Machines for VMware desktop products https://vimalin.com

    1. 2

Nice, and your SEO talk got me to write some damn blog posts, although nothing great SEO-wise yet :)

      1. 2

        Cool.

Some SEO tips I learned over the past week (perhaps you know them already)

        • Keep sentences short, under 20 words.
        • Write in an active voice, not passive voice as it is more difficult to read.
        • Link your articles so that they are easy to discover.
        • If it is a longer post, add headings.
        • Add titles/alt texts to images. Oh and every article should have at least one image.
        • Use meta data keywords and make sure the meta data keywords also show up in the text.
        • Sometimes it feels like you are repeating things too often. Usually that is fine.

Any relevant content is SEO material. In my case, by feeding it through the SEO tester I keep on refining and improving the texts. It's a huge improvement already and I'm about half way done. Although I hope it will be "finished" one of these days.

        1. 1

That is awesome! Reread it a couple times to keep it in my head, and saving it for later as well :) And gonna have to make sure I understand the active/passive voice.

          1. 2

Oh, go to the source : https://yoast.com/academy/seo-copywriting-training/passive-voice/

I would have suggested Yoast to you, but I seem to recall that you are not using WordPress as a blogging platform. They have a lot of great tips. It is worthwhile reading what they have to say about SEO.

            1. 1

Cool. Thanks. Yeah, not using WP, but that link is great :)

  5. 5

    EPIC:

    By end of February:

    • Push a new landing page with updated content + a video.
    • Create a proper blog, convert old entries and post a couple new ones. (Done)
    • From January: Solidify next steps for getting some beta users and feedback.
    • Continue push to get out of beta.

    Past however many days:

    • Released some minor bug fixes and UI tweaks.
    • All docs converted to MkDocs. Looks way better, and is maintainable.
    • Blog converted to Hugo and posted a status update + 2 regular posts. Theme looks pretty.
    • Nice little boost from a beta survey response: "It's extremely amazing. I just loved it. I really would love to be a part of this beta testing!!"
    • Updated copyright to show project isn't dead (thanks @vimalin)

    Next few days:

    • Minor feature updates.
    • Need some more SEO-friendly blog posts. Maybe generic kanban/sheet/groups posts.
    • More work on other app mvp. Put in a lot of free work, but the exchanged feedback on Brisa has been awesome.

    WIP: https://brisaboards.com

    1. 3

Sounds like some major content surgery with the MkDocs and Hugo integrations! Nice

      1. 1

It actually wasn't too bad once I got in the groove! Both of those apps use markdown, but most markdown generators will pass through HTML. So I converted some simple pages to markdown, but the complex ones I left as-is (just looked to make sure they look half-decent).

    EPIC
    By end of 2019:
    10+ paying customers

    By end of February:
    Alpha Launch - On Track
New Customer Facing Site Launched - Complete

    YESTERDAY

    • [unrelated] Finally caught up on grad school crap

    TODAY

    • [BACKEND] buckle down on some code, stub my redesigned codegen class to round out OpenApi 3.0 component support
    • [PLANNING] establish timeline and tasks for actual implementation of stubs with special focus paid to scoping tasks to 30-60 minute executable chunks
    • [PLANNING] layout a calendar for content creation and dog-fooding the solution.
-[PERSONAL] un-Valentine's day double date = night in with steaks, booze, and horror movies

KUDOS: @jimbol brooklet is coming along nicely, the signup/first sign-in mechanics felt a little rough, but the layout is nice. I'll be attempting to track my next week in there, as well as tossing in some habit type stuff. Feedback incoming.

      Thanks for trying it out!

    2. 1

Looks like your landing page has improved a lot since I last looked? Although in chrome on linux, I get a little horizontal scrolling (wonder if I have some plugin causing that).

Keep up the good work! Always impressed by people who have important day tasks/jobs but still get a ton of work done :)

      1. 1

Thanks, that was more work than I anticipated.

That's odd about that scroll bar, I'll have to take a look. I don't think there are any hard coded widths there. I know better than that.

        1. 1

Weird. Just checked and it shows up in Firefox as well. Looks like the pricing plan card deck is pushed to the right (a tiny bit of padding on the left, and none on the right) for some reason.

          1. 1

should be gone now, still off center by a few pixels but it's less noticeable now. The scroll bar should be gone now, thanks for pointing that out.

            1. 1

No prob, and yup, horiz scroll is gone!

The template I'm hacking off of is very sensitive. I'll do a release and it will randomly decide to add them on mobile and/or desktop haha.

    1. 1

Nice, I like seeing your UI changes over time.

What was the IH meetup like?

      1. 1

We jumped on a zoom call around 10AM, and it lasted until noon. Most had video on, I did not this week. We did intros, then broke out into 3 consecutive breakout sessions, mixing up the 15 or so folks into 2 groups at a time. First we chatted about sales and marketing, second and third we did open discussion where someone talked about a problem or question and those of us who could add value did. I got a lot out of it, and had some good socialization. I was also able to help out someone with a contact which might help them move forward. Totally doing it again!

        1. 2

That sounds awesome! Might have to give it a try. Now I'm looking forward to the next San Diego, CA IH meetup.

      1. 1

Working on a mobile app that helps you share contact details with people you meet in person. This is really more of a side project than a serious business idea.

Here's a half (quarter?) baked landing page I made last night :)
