🧐 Criticize my website and copy, before I launch.

I'm "officially" launching my startup ShotCrew, in a few days. For context, it's a managed service marketplace and we provide fully-managed photoshoots for consumer products companies.

I've been focused on growing the supply side of the business, and product-market fit/customer interviews, but I finally feel ready to launch.

Although the service isn't really geared to this community (it's focused on ecommerce/consumer products companies) I thought it would be helpful to get a different group of people to poke holes in the website, copywriting, etc.

It's far from perfect, and I'm expecting to hear about a lot of things that could be improved. Don't feel like you need to hold back. For example, I know it could look much better on mobile.

Here's the website: https://shotcrew.com

I'll be responding to comments, but just wanted to thank you all in advance as well!

Tyrel

Here's my 5c about the copy.

I don't really understand why you're putting so much stress on "technology". If I got it right, your offer is basically just — you run a freelancer platform for photographers who can make nice pictures of the client's product? Because in this case, I don't think anyone could care less about "technology". Clients would want a hassle-free way to book a photo-shoot, quality photos, and some satisfaction guarantees. And freelancers would want transparent and fair payments.

Statements like "A simple process powered by technology" say absolutely nothing and are only confusing. "Product photography made easy" — I'd replace it with concrete facts, like "Book a photo shoot for your product in 5 minutes". Now it would be clear what your company is doing.

      Hi Paul,

Great feedback and thank you for pointing out that I was focused so much on the technology. You're right that people actually don't care about HOW ShotCrew is going to actually get to the result. They care about THE RESULT, the cost of getting that result, and what they have to do to get the result.

I need to take a closer look at my copy and get rid of vague "filler" sentences without a doubt.

Hey Tyrel, that's what I saw from a quick view.

    1. Short website title. You'd better change it to something longer that will in 3-5 words say what this website about.
    2. Missing description. You need to add a description of about 200 symbols. A description is a text below the link in Google results. It will help users understand the major point of your website.
    3. If I were you, I'd rather change this h3 tags to h2:
      • Exceptional product photography shouldn't be rocket science
      • A simple process powered by technology
All these steps will improve the value of your website for users and for search engines.
Also, I've noticed that you're using a Yoast SEO plugin for Wordpress. This is very good because you can set up the templates of title tags for every page. Also, it can help you to improve the description of pages.

Hi there, thank you for your awesome feedback! I honestly forgot about setting a quality website title and description - so thanks for the input on that.

You're right about using Yoast and I definitely need to learn how to maximize the value it can bring.

I appreciate your help and feedback!

I'd recommend a button or CTA at the bottom of key pages such as https://shotcrew.com/our-photos/

Homepage title tag starts with "Home"... doesn't tell Google much about what you do.

I actually really liked almost every aspect of the design you did, really nice quality, kudos.

Colin, thank you for this advice! Great idea to have CTA's on the important pages.

I'll use Yoast to make sure the title tags are set up properly.

Thank you for the kind words!

Hey, just checked the site - looking good! You should get some reviews then add review schema for Google.

Hello Tyrel, I like the idea about selling photo shoots on given products (the e-commerce way). You may have to check your favicon, as the website seems to not have any (it helps to remember your brand, and it's SEO & user friendly) 😎

Hey there, that's a great point haha. Thank you for reminding me to fix that! :)

    Hey Tyler, great site!

Maybe consider slowing down your slider animation by half and adding extra spacing in the footer. 👍
