3 months, 167 comparison pages, 6 Google clicks — and ChatGPT is now my #1 traffic source

I launched Spec Atlas in late May: spec-first product comparisons (hair dryers, earbuds, robot vacuums, air purifiers…). Row-by-row winners on a spec table, no composite score, analysis that never claims

I just did the first proper analytics pull (GA4 + Search Console + URL Inspection on every URL) and the numbers are humbling enough to be worth sharing.

What Google did with 167 pages

  • Indexed 65. Never crawled 84. Has no record of 17 more — all in a sitemap it downloads daily.

  • Lifetime Google clicks: 6. The site has 5 backlinks from 2 domains. Every unindexed page has zero known referring pages. That's not a content verdict, it's a trust verdict.

What ChatGPT did

  • 52 visitors from chatgpt.com in three months, 48 of them in August. It's now the biggest real source of humans, ahead of every search engine combined.

  • It cites pages Google has never crawled. ChatGPT browses with Bing, and Bing organic (24 sessions) also beats Google (9) for me.

  • Those visitors are one-and-done — ~1 minute, verify, leave — but 13% click through to Amazon, better than any other channel.

The pattern in what actually gets cited/ranked

  • Nobody cites me for Sony XM5 vs Bose QC Ultra. Google doesn't rank me for it either (position ~45). What works is the boring middle: Remington D3190 vs D5000, JBL Tune 770NC vs Soundcore Q20i, Oral-B iO3 vs

  • Sonicare 4100. Budget and same-brand ladders where the big review sites can't be bothered. That's the lane now.

Honest accounting: two-thirds of my recorded sessions were me (localhost, Tag Assistant, my own affiliate-link testing). Real external humans in three months: 101.
The traffic is starting to pick up though.
