I got sober in January and pretty quickly realised I needed to build some structure into my days. I tried every habit tracker out there and every single one made me feel worse when I missed a day. Streaks, resets, guilt — the exact emotional triggers I was trying to move away from.
So I built my own.
Rise Habits is a minimal habit tracker with no streaks, no gamification, and no data leaving your device. The idea is simple: missing a day shouldn't feel like failure. The calendar shows where you've been to remind you how far you've come, not to punish you.
It's live on iOS and Android is almost there. I built it in React Native, using RevenueCat for a tip jar (no subscription, just optional support), and everything is stored on-device.
What I learned building it:
Simplicity is incredibly hard to ship. Every feature I removed made it better.
The streak mechanic is everywhere because it works for retention — but it's terrible for people who actually need the app to be kind
Building something you personally needed is the best motivation I've found
Currently looking for beta testers — if you want early access sign up at risehabits.app.
Happy to answer any questions about the build, the App Store submission process, or anything else. This community has been a huge help just from reading old posts.
