3 ways to overcome imposter syndrome as a maker

The past month has been an incredible epoch in my journey as an indie hacker.

While I'm excited to continue this progress, there's one thing that's constantly loitering on my mind... Imposter syndrome.

I wanted to share some of my strategies for dealing with self-doubt 👇

I've dreamt of having my own lifestyle business for years, but what happens when this starts to become a reality?

After putting this dream on a pedestal for so long, I constantly doubt my ability to maintain the laurels I've created.

Particularly with building an education product, my imposter syndrome always makes me question if I'm truly offering anything of value to my customer's lives.

Well, here's what I'm doing to combat my feelings of self-doubt 💪

1️⃣ Surrounding myself with like-minded people

The past year has taught me how important it is to use platforms like Twitter to build genuine relationships.

I've found so much value in connecting with like-minded makers who are a step ahead of me.

Their stories, experience, and advice is invaluable.

Having a support network has distilled a world of confidence in both myself and my product.

It's also refreshing to hear that I'm not the only maker who frequently doubts themselves.

No matter what stage you're at, it's completely natural to have self-doubt.

2️⃣ Commending myself in positive moments

When Janel Loi shared a screenshot of her Newsletter OS product, there was one feature that stood out to me - a repository to store positive customer feedback.

I've recently started collecting screenshots of positive customer testimonials, messages, and organic posts sharing my product.

Now, whenever I start to question myself, I take a moment to reflect on the positive experiences I've created in others lives.

3️⃣ Focus on what's working

As I reach new product milestones each month, I need to remind myself that customers are obviously finding value in my creation.

Instead of worrying about what CAN go wrong, I need to focus on doubling down on what is ALREADY working.

In summary 🙌

It's completely normal to have feelings of self-doubt as a maker. Without a boss or team to provide positive reassurance, you need to find another way to gather self-validation for your work.
