AskIH: Any drawbacks to using HotJar, had set it up for a week. Data is freakin amazing

Tools like HotJar and FullStory are indeed awesome, they give you a huge amount of insight into what your users are doing that you wouldn't otherwise have.

We use FullStory at my work and have had to disable it in certain countries (primarily China and a few other Asian countries) because it causes users to experience incredibly slow loading times. Just something to keep in mind!

Maybe I'm a little old fashioned, but I think setting up a tool like Mixpanel and careful planning out the events you want to track is well worth the time.

Having events you plan from the start lets you be more strategic and create hypotheses instead of just a distracting dump of data. You can start with a simple goal: "I want users to come to my site, click this button, and buy this widget," and then track those events, create funnels, and see change over time. Nothing else matters even half as much as a couple of key funnels (whatever your main actions may be).

I also think that cursor tracking etc. is slowing down the web.

...but maybe I'm just being resistant to change 😬

I would recommend, as others have also suggested, to use it in intervals for specific use cases you might have or need.

Our experience too, good for pre launch, beta builds. Production builds demand higher performance.
