After reading the article on this site about finding problems from personal experience, I reviewed all my previous jobs and listed the most painful and time consuming problems.

  1. Spending two weeks to fix a backward compatibility problem.
  2. Spending two hours on setting up the server and finally running into OS and web server compatibility problem.
  3. Spending one week on web framework upgrade when I was told that I cannot work on Web application framework that is running on a language version where its support has ended.

Forums and github issues are filled with similar problems but there is no tool available that can tell a developer if a given version of a software or library is compatible with another library or not.

I have decided to work on this tool and push my existing technical skills beyond it's current limit. The source code will be open source with MIT license. Since I am not good at Front-End development, it will be an API that developers can use to get the compatibility data. It will be free for developers with a reasonable rate limiting to avoid abuse.

Instead of thinking about how do I make money, I have shifted my focus to: How can I impact millions of developers? How can I make them more productive? Any suggestions and feedback is welcome.
